1999 Cinequest San Jose Film Festival's Maverick Competition screenedAmerican CowboyFebruary 26, at 5:30 p.m. at Camera 3 Theater in San Jose. The theater was surprisingly close to full. Director Kyle Henry, and Executive Producer Calvin Preece attended the screening. The film was well received by the audience. You can check out the Cinequest 99 website for more on the festival. Lux Cinema Hoxton Square London Nov 22 1998

American Cowboymades its United Kingdom debut November 22 in London. The film was screened as a part of theMavericks Film Festival . Our screening time was 9 p.m. on the last day of the festival and the crowd was sparse according to Director Kyle Henry who was present for the showing in jolly old England.

Honorable Mention Chicago's Reeling 98

American Cowboyrecieved an Honorable Mention from the documentary jury at Chicago's Reeling 98 the 1998 Chicago Gay and Lesbian Film Festival which ran from November 6 thru 15 in the Windy City.American Cowboy was screened at 5:30 p.m. at the village Theater as a part of a three film screening. 1st Place at the Cinema Texas 1998 Festival

AMERICAN COWBOY has been awarded 1st Prize for documentary films at the 1998 Cinema Texas Festival . The award comes with a cash prize for post production expenses. Thanks to the CinemaTexas jury for the award.

AMERICAN COWBOY traveled to Europe in September. 3rd Place Honors at NEXT FRAME 98 in Phily.

Director Kyle Henry traveled to France to attend a documentary market in Marseilles, France, in mid-September. A number of European distributors have expressed an interest in the film. Negotiations are now underway to have the film play in various countries. We are also back to the USA tour. The film has been awarded 3rd prize in the documentary category in the 98 NextFrame festival. As a part of its award,American Cowboywill be shown in Philadelphia and then taken on tour with the NextFrame 98 website. We will have more details about the NextFrame World Tour as they develop.

OUTFEST 98, THE ANNUAL LOS ANGELES GAY AND LESBIAN FILM FESTIVAL SCREENEDAMERICAN COWBOY ON JULY 17TH

AMERICAN COWBOYwas shown at 7 p.m., July 17th, at the Directors Guild of America Theater Number 2, as a part ofOUTFEST 98. Director Kyle Henry, film subject Gene Mikulenka, and Executive Producer Calvin Preece were in attendance for the screening. The film played to a nearly full house and to an excellent reception.

HOUSTON GAY & LESBIAN FILM FESTIVAL

JUNE 6 & 7 MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS-HOUSTON

Once againAmerican Cowboyplayed to sold out houses at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts 400 plus seat auditorium as a part of the 1998 Houston Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.

AT THE ATLANTA FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL AND THE BALTIMORE QUEER FILM FESTIVAL ON JUNE 6TH

American Cowboyalso played on June 6th at the ATLANTA FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL. The listing for the film is in the schedule by dates under the title Queer Docs: Bubbas & Bubbehs. The film showed to a warm reception at the AMC Phipps Theater at 6 p.m. The same weekend the film played in Baltimore as a part of the Baltimore Queer Film Festival.

AMERICAN COWBOYhonored at the Humboldt International Student Film Festival

AMERICAN COWBOYwas the winner of the Honorable Mention prize at the recent Humboldt International Film Festival in Arcata, California. The prize is one of two awarded to documentary films during the event.


On Cable Television in America and Canada'sBig Life

On May 11, on the Independent Film Channel a segment aired on the closing of the Union Film Theatre at the University of Texas, edited by Kyle Henry and Spencer Parsons. American Cowboy was featured in an introduction to the segment which also featured an interview with Kyle and Spencer.

Recently, a segment onAmerican Cowboyaired on the Canandian Broadcasting Company television show "Big Life," featuring clips and interview segments with our director.


HOLLYWOOD, MAY 28TH

American Cowboytraveled to Hollywood on May 28th. Director Kyle Henry presented excerpts from the film at a special showing at Fox Studios Little Theater as a part of the University of Texas Film Program presentation.

South by Southwest Film Festival, Austin, Texas

American Cowboy appeared in Austin, Texas, at the South by Southwest (SXSW)film festival. Our film opened the festival on March 13th, ran again on the 16th and on the final day of the film fest March 21. The film played to good houses and we got some good reviews from the media.

HOUSTON PREMIERE AT MFA


The premiere ofAmerican Cowboywas held January 31st, 1998, at 8:30 p.m. at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas, where the film played to a sold out house of 400. More than 75 people had to be turned away at the door.

American Cowboywas shown as a part of the MFA's LOCAL SPINfestival which featured new films by Houston Filmmakers and producers. Local Spin, a sequel to the museum's popular 1995 First Look, series showcased new short and feature-length works shot on video and film. Local Spin was cosponsored by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP), and the Houston Film Commission.
