Dave X. Pooh's Anti-Religion Corner

Consider it a favor, okay?

"They all think that they have the truth, they'll set you free... they want money to set you free, free for fee! They all think they have the answers, they don't even know the questions...they're just a bunch of liars, they just want your money, they just want your conciousness!" --Jello Biafra--

This is my anti-religion page. I could go on and on about this, and in the future I will. Sometime soon you should start looking for more links on this page to other things I'll be writing. For now, this will have to be enough. Be sure to go through the page with an open mind, and you'll do just fine. If you have questions or comments, mail me.

As you know, I am an atheist... however, not believing in any gods is a small part of who I am. I am also anti-religious, something which some atheists are, and some are not. You see, not believing is one thing, but finding the whole system of believing in any god is another thing entirely. By not supporting religion, one takes on the responsibility of showing others why they should abandon their religious lifestyle. That is the purpose of this page.

Okay... here we go. I think I will begin by stating my beliefs. First off, I believe that religion is atool used for control of people, their way of thinking and their way of acting in given situations. Control is the primary purpose of religion, and you would be best not to forget that. You see, at one point in time, somewhere in the past, religion was dreamed up by somebody who needed a way to control others, or he felt the need to gain control. Through his marvelous idea of religion, he or she was able to gain this control. This is known as the fear factor.

The fear factor is the idea that by making someone scared of the consequences of their actions, you can control what that person does. It is much like a father threatening to hit his child if she doesn't take out the garbage. The child may not want to take out the garbage, but she knows that she will be hit, and is afraid... thus, she takes it out instead of facing the fear factor.

Religion acts in much the same way, only in a much more sinister fashion. For the sake of brevity, let us deal with Christianity, as it is the largest religon in the world, and by far the most evil. In Christianity, the followers are told that not embracing doctrine, they will be sent to an eternal hell where they will be burned alive, frozen, and all sorts of ugly things... amazing what those Christians dream up to scare each other, isn't it?

Another reason I do not appreciate religion is because it stifles creative minds. By making each member follow a set of rules, strict rules, the believers are duped into policing each other. Where they do not believe they have anyone who tells them what to do, they actually do it themselves! You see, many religions trick their followers into trying to be the best at their respective religions. By doing so, there will always be those who do things like tattle on the religious who aren't religious enough for their tastes. In doing so, they end up making each other be more and more orthodox in their actions and emotions.

Another bad thing about religion is that it makes us have an anthropocentric view of the world. That means a human-centered view. By thinking that god is going to save us all (or Jesus), then we don't really take actions to save ourselves. You see, the universe doesn't really give a rip if we fuck our world up or not. If we don't work to help ourselves, nobody else will... believe it. To tell you the truth, my arguments about religion are way too involved to be all written out. If you feel like asking me an intelligent question, you can mail me if you want to. Otherwise, you can just stare at this screen and pray that I answer. I won't. Ah, the power of prayer...
