This is a great site. I was homesick for the EOD troops that came through town and thought I'd see what web surfing would find. Don't know how many 'old timers' remember me from about 77-84 in Indian Head. But would love to hear from you. I took care of your banking at the bank in town and tended bar at the Sportsman, Gateway and Longhorn at different times. I also had holiday dinners for 'waifs and orphans' who couldn't make it home. Boy do I miss the good times! Chelle (Bank as opposed to Shelly - Security)

Hello Mike, I enjoyed your site on the EOD of the Air Force. I got back from my local MEPS station yesterday and I signed up for EOD as my skill/job. I scored a 79 on my ASVAB. I joined for 6 years, got a $9000 bonus and a automatic E3 rank. I dont leave ntil Se tember 1st -December 1st. I was hoping you could tell me more about the EOD in the Air Force. I chose EOD because it sounded exciting, purposefull and something I could use if I ever leave the Air Force possibly joining the SWAT team or FBI. I was hopi g you could send me some more information on your job there, what an average day/week is like as a EOD, and how you all enjoy it out there. Thanks, Ted Robertson -17 Yeard Old

I am researching a television series on Bomb disposal during WW2 in the UK. I am trying to track down people who may have worked at the Navy Bureau of Ordnance Indian Head from 1948 -1953 and may have met either GF Hussey Jnr or Herbert Erich Ruehlemann, he designer of the German ECR Fuze. I know it is a long shot, but any information would be gratefully received. Melanie Jappy

Entertaining, but you should at least pay some homage to those of us who started the ORIGINAL Northern Plains EOD Team at Grand Forks! Some of the guys that deserve credit: Westfall, JJ Jackson, Gramps, Dave Urdall, and Mike Porter (and even BDB). Seriously, brought back some good, cold memories of ND. Not a bad site. I'll bet that Eaton is sitting on his butt right now with his mouth flapping away like mad. Tell him to get to work and shovel some snow! Remember to look me up if you come here for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah. I've heard that there w ll be hundreds of EOD coming here for that mess. Party!

Retired from the AF in 1985. Spent over 14 years in the EOD (464X0) career field. Spent 8 years in the Nuclear career field (463X0). Things have changed over the years. Moving from Indian Head to Eglin was a surprise. Never thought they'd leave good ld Indian Head. I'm looking for some of my old troops. Anyone knowing the location of the following former EOD Techs, please let me know. CMsgt Bob Deikman, Tim Burnell, Raymond Smith, Richard Doty, George Kintlock, Bruce Heinnicke, Sam Gossett and Mike Davis. These guys were heros in more that one way. They performed RSPs on nukes and lived to tell about it. Anyone knows whether these guys are still around, please let me know.

Just a quick reply to your good selves. Your reply to my first post mentioned that you had done the course at DEODS. Unfortunatly this is an all arms run center for wartime EOD. The real center of exellence for IEDD is at The Army School of Ammunition in the Midlands. Here at the Felix Center is where all the British mainland and Nortern Ireland IEDD operators are trained. All operators who wish to work on the streets must first past a course here. We do have several courses for the oversees student. So bug your bosses and get yourselves on one. If you need any details Mail me. See you soon Phil O :-)

It's great to see an EOD website. I am orginally from Minot (16 years of bitter cold). I moved to Texas 2yrs Ago. I joined the Airforce in NOV98. I am due to ship out in the Summer of 99'. I chose EOD as my field. Hopefully I will return to Minot one day, maybe to be stationed. Its just great to learn more about the EOD and their duties.

It is strange to see the 5th EOD and Air Force Unit. Since I go back a year or so I will give you a bit of History on the Army's 5th EOD. Activated in APG Maryland l949, Moved to Gerogia, after the Korean War got started it moved to Okinawa and remained there for a number of years. (May still be there??) Gen MacArthur keep three squads in reserve and one on Okinawa. The three in Japan were the 866 in the North, 7th in Vokohama & Tokyo Area, and my Almamater the 18th in Osaka Kyoto area. Enough dreaming. You have a very nice web...."Fire in the Hole".....Pat..

Nice site, but not all the various sections opened up.

(Webmaster snips 40 lines of personal resume.)

I am going to Cape Town, South Africa in November to present a paper I am writing on haz mat response for airlines, airports, and airport fire units. Part of it deals with recognition. Do you folks of any source of color slides of the more common military ordiance? I trained the 47th EOD Detachment (nice people) at Fort Hood, Texas as Haz Mat Technicians and saw an incredible array of inert explosives. For airport workers recognition is an important step in dealing with those hazardous materials that are e plosives so I am looking for color slides to show the world Flight Safety Foundation conference in Cape Town. It is a lot easier to show someone what a Claymore mine looks like than describe it in print or verbally. Unfortunately you (1) can't just go dow to Home Depot with your Visa card and pick one up off the shelf, and (2) airport police and customs/immigration agents tend to get very excited when you drop your suitcase and all the stuff they don't like falls out and you have a difficult time convinci g them you just got dummy replicas at Toy R Us and spray painted them in olive darb yourself.

Any help is appreciated. Have a nice day.

(Webmaster replies: "I recommend calling the closest military EOD unit and asking them if you can photograph their training ordnance. A generous beer bribe will probably go a long way. I also recommend that if you write them, you don't refer to ordnance (military munitions) as 'ordinance' (a law)--most EOD types get touchy about that. Good luck.")
