- Dry Hair Solutions
- If your hair hair is dry due to chemical services
see permed hair or color treated
hair solutions below. Dry hair is due to a lack of moisture and more importantly
humectants and lipids (essential fatty acids).
Proper hair care can solve this concern easily. Dry hair is commonly due
to:
- 1) Environmental damage - sun, heat, outside
chemicals...
- 2) Mechanical damage - blow drying, curling irons,
hot rollers...
- 3) Chemical damage - perms,
color, bleach (see below)
In each case lipids are lost from the hair. These
lipids are humectants which attract and hold moisture into the hair. They
need to be replaced.
Here are some recommendations:
- 1) Sunset Hair Elements Dry Hair
Kit
2) Paul
Mitchell® Seal and Shine (if you use heat on your
hair / thermal protector)
- 3) Nexxus® Ensure (acidifier)
- 4)
Paul Mitchell® Extra Body Gel (can be ordered online
at a discount to "All about hair readers!)

- Fine Hair
Solutions
- Fine hair is due to a lack of a
of cuticle/cortex ratio. Those with fine hair walk a fine line between
having too much moisture in the hair (weighing it down) and not enough.
Shoulder length or shorter is good for fine hair. Your stylist should use
scissors only to obtain the most precise cut as possible for your thin
hair. Layers are optional- but it is nice to give fine hair some shape
since it tends to go limp. A good solution for this are face- framing layers.
- Remember: with fine hair- less
is more. Its okay to use texturing products to add volume and control while
styling- but don't go overboard. To keep your hair in the best condition,
blow-dry on the lowest setting. Switch shampoos every few days, alternating
between volumizing and moisturizing formulas. It is also a good idea to
use a clarifying shampoo once a week to rid your hair of product build
up (which can weigh your hair down).
- Unfortunately, fine hair is usually
easily damaged. Your hair type will require special care to keep healthy.
You should condition after each shampoo. In addition, it is very helpful
to deep condition at least once a week.
- Color is a great tool to help make
fine hair look thicker and healthier. Remember that fine hair is usually
naturally lighter in color than thick hair- so it is important to tell
your colorist to lighten the base first. By working with the base first-
your hair cuticles will absorb the color and plump up, creating a thicker
feel. Then lowlights and highlights can be added to create a natural effect.
Shade upon shade can be added to give a textured appearance. Deep conditioning
once a week will help not only in keeping hair healthier, but also in holding
any color applied to your hair.

- Frizzy
Hair Solutions
- Frizzy hair is much like dry hair in that it
lacks the proper lipid balance. "Frizzy" hair hair can be due
to chemical services which too, deplete the hair of essential fatty acids
(lipids).
Here are some recommendations:
- 1) Sunset Hair Elements
2) Paul Mitchell® Soft Spray(can

-
- Permed
Hair Solutions
- When you perm the hair you expose it to a high
pH (in most cases) which swells the cuticle. Cuticle damage may result.
Also, and more importantly the neutralizer (a flash oxidizer) cases most
of the damage (in most cases) [contrary to popular belief]. The result
is damaged, dry, hair lacking in protein, lipids, and moisture. Also, You
want the perm to last...

- 1) Sunset Hair Elements
2) Nexxus® Rejuvaperm Conditioner
- 3) Paul Mitchell® Foam(can
