Niac's History:

At the age of 27, Niac entered the new Starfleet program, where only the best shuttlecraft pilots were selected to become Runabout pilots. Runabouts were introduced as a "link" between small starships, and shuttlecrafts. A kind of "in-between" ship.

This group of a dozen pilots, that Niac was a part of, became Runabout specialists. They transported important Federation Ambassadors, Medical Supplies, and whatever else Starfleet & the Federation needed a shuttlecraft that had more room, and greater speeds for.

Niac was chosen to work in a secret operation, involving the defection of Romulans. Using a disguised Runabout, Niac would collect defecting Romulans in the Neutral Zone, and bring them back into Federation space. His final Mission was discovered by the Romulans, and the Enterprise-D was in the vicinity and rescued him. On an eventful return to Earth aboard the Enterprise, Niac met one of the Nurses under Crusher's command, Lieutenant Bull, and they became engaged a few months later.

Niac then entered Starfleet Security, and took another year at Starfleet, learning to become a Security Officer. His rank was Lieutenant Commander. At this time, Intrepid class ships were being brought into service across the Federation, and Niac was posted to the Intrepid Class ship, the U.S.S Cochrane, named after Warp drive inventor Zephram Cochrane. It was commanded by Captain Alyssa Smith, who was also Australian. In his first month as Deputy Security Chief, Niac adjusted to life on a Starship, and developed friendships with many aboard.

After a month of service aboard the Cochrane, his fiance transferred aboard, to be together. At this time, the Security Chief retired, and Niac was promoted to Security Chief.

On a mission into the Gamma Quadrant, the Ships' First Officer resigned, and Niac became temporarily First Officer. The mission was discovered by the Dominion, and the Jem Hadar attacked the Cochrane with crew on an away mission. The resigning First Officer; Niac's best friend; and his Fiance, Nurse Bull, were amongst those who died in the attack. The Cochrane was rescued by the new ship (at that time) posted to Deep Space Nine, called the Defiant.

Niac came close to resigning, but met many people who helped him in his search to continue, as a full Commander. These people included Kreeb, the Klingon; Captain TheDonn of the U.S.S. Revel; and Admiral McWarren.

Captain Smith was promoted to Admiral, and given command of a project refitting Nebula Class ships. Niac received a promotion to Captain, and took command of the COCHRANE. At this time, he met Lt. Katija, who taught him how to get over the death of his Fiance, and Niac came to value her as a close friend.

Last year, (the now) Admiral Smith, ordered Niac and his crew into a new project, as the very nature of the Intrepid class ship was involved in the mission, called: Project Nebula. .
The Crew of Niac's ship, and new crew from Earth, were assigned to this Project. For four months, Niac commanded the Cochrane, and two refitted Nebula class prototypes, the Tamaran and the Noosa. The Noosa became Niac's primary ship while based at Starbase 4565. The Project was terminated with mixed success late last year. All ships were put to active Starfleet duty, Niac was passed over for command of any of these ships.
