Grandmother
Thompson
1887-1962
I chose this background because of my Grandmother
Thompson's love for roses. She had a beautiful rose
garden that she enjoyed taking care of and sharing
with others. The above picture was taken when my
grandmother was a student at "Normal College". She
met my grandfather when he went to the
college
to visit his sister. Grandmother was always doing
some needlework. This is the grandmother who gave
me the desire to learn to tat. She helped me make
a quilt when I was 12 years old. It was simple--just
small squares sewn together, but I have the memories
of the time we spent together.

Grandmother
Burke
1868-1954
This is my dad's
mom. She is holding my dad who is age one
in this picture. He was born premature and weighed a little
over two pounds at birth. Grandmother was afraid to feed
him because he was so small. A neighbor came in and fed
him and later in life you would never have guessed that he
started out that small. This grandmother was talented too.
She made the outfit she is wearing and my dad's dress. She
did beautiful crocheting that you can see on
some of my other
pages.

Grandmother Byrd
1886-1982
This is my
husband's grandmother. She is the only great
grandmother that was alive after our children were born.
She lived out in the country and we didn't get there that
often, but the children loved her and have wonderful

memories of going to her house. She had a well and you
could draw a pail of the best water! There was always

biscuits baked on a wood stove. Most of all was this wonder-
ful smile and pure love that she gave everyone. I did a
needlepoint that said "Love is Grandmother
Byrd".
