I have had a weight problem my whole life. I have tried one diet after another. Sometimes I would actually lose weight, but I would eventually gain it all back and then some more. Everytime a new diet came around I tried it. Each time I would be hoping that this was the diet that would work. They all sounded good. They all made a lot of sense...they just never worked!
One day my dad told me about a new diet pill he had been taken called Phen-fen. Well, I was sceptical, since I had taken diet pills before and the most they ever did for me was hype me up like speed. But I began to see the weight coming off of him, and he wasn't having the nervous side affects so I thought, what the heck....and asked my doctor for some as well. I have to say that I thought Phen-fen was WONDERFUL! I trully believed I had found the one thing that would finally free me from the bonds of obesity. I was on Phen-fen for almost two years and I lost a total of 75 pounds. In fact, I was 15 pounds away from my goal weight, when the news started telling reports of people dying or having heart problems from it. So my doctor took me off the drugs and even though I continued to diet and do all that I was doing while on the medication, my weight began to slowly come back on. So now, here I am today, August 28, 1999 weighing in at 210+ pounds. Not only is this an unhealthy weight for a normal person, but I also have a condition called pseudotumor cerebri. This causes pressure to be put on my heart, eyes, ears and head...from my spinal fluid.
I just found out this past week that the spinal fluid is putting 5 times more than the normal amount of pressure on my heart. This means I am in danger of congestive heart failure. But, my neurologist told me before this would ever happen, I will go blind first, because of the pressure on my eyes. (I have already lost my hearing from the pressure on my ears.) So, I have been informed that in order to get the pressure lower, I have to lose weight quickly. The best way he knows how to do this is through weight loss surgery (WSL).
So, here I am, beginning my journal. I will update it as I move forward in my endevour to have WLS. |
