There were 5 Carlson brothers that came over from Stjälkhammer, which is in Ukna parish, Kalmar län, Småland, Sweden: Oscar, Albin, Sigurd, Edward and Axel. Their sister, Esther was also in this country for a time, but developed "consumption" and Sigurd Carlson took her back to Sweden where she died about 1910. Oscar died in a lumber camp early on - we believe it was in British Columbia. The rest stayed in the Kiron/ Odebolt vicinity all of their lives. Axel never married and lived many years with Sigurd and his wife. The "Carlson Brothers" appear on a 1908 plat map in Section 17, Wheeler Township as "Res. of Carlson Bros." on land owned by W. L. Royter (Reuter). They worked as farm laborers and in lumber camps before they bought their own land and married, some of them working on the Adams Ranch near Odebolt. Their immigration dates are as follows: Oscar (1893), Albin (1894), Edward (1897), and Sigurd (1898). The story is that each sent money over to Sweden for the next brother to come. This continued until Axel arrived in 1903, accompanied by his sister, Esther.
