CHIVES

CHIVES
Chives have very tight clumps of long, skinny grass like onion leaves. They produce rosy purple globe shaped flowers. Chives have a mild onion flavor. This herb prefers an average to rich, moist soil but will manage in almost any soil if kept moist. Fresh, dried or frozen leaves can be used in cream cheese spreads, cottage cheese, potatoes, salads, eggs, soups, poultry, fish and veal. The fresh flowers can be used in vinegars, salads and garnishes--the dried flowers in floral arrangements and wreaths. Harvest only part of the plant at a time for continuous production through the season.
