1-TIM has no comment on Yahoo deal report

MILAN,
May 18 (Reuters) - Telecom Italia Mobile < >TIM.MI> said
on Thursday it had no comment on a newspaper report it was close to
signing an alliance with the European division of U.S. portal
operator Yahoo < >TICKER>YHOO< >/TICKER>.
But a spokeswoman said TIM would hold a meeting with journalists in
Frankfurt at 1030 GMT. Italian daily Corriere della Sera,
citing 'reliable sources,' said TIM, a unit of Telecom Italia < >TIT.MI>
would announce a deal later on Thursday. The accord would involve a
partnership under which Yahoo services would be made available
to TIM clients using WAP technology. WAP, or Wireless
Application Protocol, is a standard for designing Internet content
for small terminals such as mobile phones. In
pre-opening trade on the Milan bourse, TIM shares were showing a
rise of 1.51 percent to 10.79 euros in a falling market.
