Courtyard - Ista Hold
The flagstones in this area seem to have been crafted from the dominating black sands that are found along the shoreline of the Island, for they glitter in any light with a sparkling ebony reflection. It makes them somewhat warmer than they ought to be, and not at all conducive to bare feet, though they're laid in an almost perfectly smooth mosaic across the length and breadth of the Hold's courtyard. Enveloped as it is by high walls that prohibit the encroaching jungle, it lacks some of the softer breezes that blow in from the coast but is nonetheless laden with the warm, fresh, salty air of the sea. The banners of Ista Hold are flung from the windows, catching in the winds that sweep along the coastline.
A large, stone arch with wooden gates that are almost always flung open leads out to the Island road, its flattened sandy expanse stretching through the jungles and disappearing beyond the walls. Great metal doorways lead into the Hold proper, likewise flung wide to invite those who might venture here inward and out of the tropical heat. A small, wooden gate bisects the southern end of the courtyard's wall, opening onto the trail over the sand dunes to the black beach and the docks nearby.
You head through the wooden gates, following the trail over the sand dunes to emerge on the black sands of the Hold beach.

In one arm, is a tiny sleeping newborn wrapped up in a blue blanket. In the other arm is an infant whose deep blue eyes are open but look as if the baby might fall asleep any moment in its pink blanket. Then nestled in a sling type carrier across her front is a baby in a soft peach blanket. He is fast asleep, against the warm body of his mother. Slowly and carefully Serriena steps down the path from the Hold to the beach, her deep blue eyes filled with excitement and tender care at the same time for her children.
Kinsarin is still on the beach meditating, the same as the night before. He appears to have not moved a centimeter.
Abalonie walks away from the courtyard, carefully stepping through the sand and doing her best not to get her skirt too dirty. She looks up as she sees Kinsarin, Tasuki, Dari, and Serri all on the beach and pauses, relaxing her arms a bit.
Serriena is carefully stepping over the sand. She flicks her gaze to those gathered and then down to the three babies she carries as if still not able to believe they are here. She notices Abalonie and smiles at the girl. "Hello Abalonie," she calls out. Kinsarin is given a glance and a thoughtful look. He? Performing meditation? She shakes her head and then looks about at the others.
Magmus comes over a few sand dunes and into view from the general direction of the Hold Proper.
Magmus has arrived.
Somewhere down the beach, Dara sits in a hollow of sand, spiderclaw shells littered around her. The bronze flit is about, winging about in the air with creels and squeaks - Hungry! Play! The girl rips the meat from a spiderclaw and tosses it high - immediately Asheron's off, jetting upwards with strong wingbeats to snag the gobbet in midair. "Clever little bandit, aren't you.." murmurs Dara in a quietly amused way, waiting for the firelizard to swallow before she sends up another morsel.
Magmus wanders in, face smeared with a dark purple jelly type substance. Deacon and Steel accompany him, both looking quite full. "Heh, afternoon all!"
A brow raises at the mess on Magmus's face. "You look like the children the nannies take care of," Serriena notes a grin lighting her face. She gently eases down on the sand giving a glance over head to the afternoon sun. Gentle fingers pull the tiny blankets wrapping her sons, over their face lightly to give them some protection.
Magmus chuckles, nodding. "I couldn't resist, a baker apprentice made a batch wrong and gave a few free to me...Heh...And well.." Grins like a little child, noticing Serriena's own. "Ohhh, so those are the new addition to the Weyr that I heard about eh?"
"Are the bubblies any good?" Serriena questions. She nods, her smile blossoming even more as she untucks the blankets to show the triplets. "This is Ginta," she indicates the baby wrapped in the pale blue blanket. "Jorrien," the baby in the pink blanket. "And Derien is the one in peach." The babies have fuzz so light it almost doesn't look there, and Jorrien's blue eyes blink sleepily from his pink blanket.
Magmus nods eagerly. "Yah! They sure are! Even the burnt ones..." Grins, smiling at each of the said children. "Three eh? Lucky you and J'nah..." Smirks.
Abalonie giggles a little at Magmus, then heads over to find a nice place on the beach to sit down with her skirt kind of pillowing beneath her and around her. She lifts one hand and tucks a wispy lock of hair behind one ear before she folds her hands neatly in her lap.
Kinsarin suddenly blinks, coming out of trance world. "Oh. Hi Serri--" He gasps. "Oh you had the baby--babies? Three?" he leaps to his feet and hops toward the lady. "Oh... They're very cute," he murmurs with a giggle.
"Lucky us indeed," Serriena's laugh ends on a groan of dismay. "I don't know how we're going to do this." She shakes her head. She smiles but doesn't sit because holding three children would be a problem for balance indeed. "I just came early to see the gather." She looks around smiling, "J'nah wouldn't let me leave the weyr but he's got sweeps this morning so I kind of snuck out."
As far as we know, Dara's still sitting in the sand, tossing spiderclaws to Asheron.
Magmus chuckles. "Wouldn't let you leave? By the first egg, why wouldn't he? It's a gather..." Licks a bit of bubbly juice off his lips, chuckling to himself.
Abalonie suddenly hops to her feet as she sees Serriena's trouble, holding out her hands to her friend as she says, "Here, Serri.. I'll hold one of them so you can sit down.."
Kinsarin nods. "As will I," he says willingly, holding his own hands out to the woman his old self hated.
"Because he's as protective of me and the children as he is of his lifemate, if only a little less so," Serriena smiles at Magmus. "But I will have to get back in a few moments to put them down. I just wanted to see what was happening." She turns to Abalonie. "Oh thank you," she holds out little Ginta wrapped up in his green blanket. "This is Ginta." She smiles at Abalonie. Her gaze flits beyond Abby and notices Dara feeding Asheron. "Dara hello!" She calls out softly to the younger girl. Kinsarin is given an uncertain glance. He wants to hold her child? There's a long moment's hesitation and then she nods. "This is Jorrien," she hands over the son swaddled in pink. "He's still awake because he doesn't like to miss anything."
Abalonie holds the little baby close and careful, keeping her arms curled into a cradle so that one hand stays up to balance Ginta's side. She smiles at him and rocks him back and forth just a little, saying, "Hi, Ginta.." Her voice is, as it always is, quiet and soft, but she looks happy.
Kinsarin giggles a little, gently rocking the baby boy back and forth. "You're an attentive little guy, huh?" he asks in a voice too high-pitched to be his real one. "Jorrien... That's a handsome name, isn't it?" he asks with a humongous grin.
Tasuki is asleep on the same sand dune he was sitting on last night. Only he has a bunch of sand on him, probably from more flying dragons taking off and the wind blowing in the middle of the night. He stirs in his sleep, but does not wake.
Serriena places a hand over Derien's side where he's cradled in the makeshift sling carrier. "Oh my, I didn't think it'd feel so good to have two hands free," the blond giggles. and flexes her other arm tentatively.
Magmus gently scritches the eye-ridges of his brown. "Oh, ok ok...Come on Deacon, we'll find something for you too." Grumbles, beginning to search for some spiderclaws near the sands edge.
Abalonie walks over with Ginta in her arms and pauses by the sand-covered Tasuki. She kneels down carefully beside him, balancing Ginta neatly in one arm, and gently brushes the sand off of her friend, saying, quietly, "Tas..?"
Serriena glances at the traveler who is covered in sand. "Hey he's the one who carried you out of the tunnels that night Abalonie," Serriena notes. She turns to speak to Dara again. "How goes it? I heard from J'nah that R'kel won a firelizard egg. Has it hatched yet?"
Magmus returns with Deacon and Steel, the brown now contendtly munching on the last remaining leg of a spiderclaw. "Gapph...Eat eat eat." Stretchs, glancing around tiredly.
Tasuki turns over to spot Abalonie looking right at him. He blinks a bit confused and startled he sits up and only notices Abalonie at first. The fact it is daytime is noted and he wonders speaking to Abalonie. "Did we? um sleep together?" It is obvious that the wanderer can't remember much of last night. Hands moves to wipe some of the sand from himself and then notices the other people around him and blushes as he realizes he said that question a little to loud.
Twilight> Kevin sips his klah with a bored expression.
Kinsarin blinks at Tasuki, wondering why sleeping together is such a big deal. He and little brother shared a bed once, after all. Yes, he's clueless.
"Hm?" Dara turns, the slippery spiderclaw meat slipping off her fingers. Asheron dives for it with an annoyed chuff, snapping it up just before it hits the sand and sliding along on his belly aways. This doesn't agree with the firelizard - he lets out a screech of alarm that only lets up when Dara leans over, extending an arm. "Hmm? He did, yes.. showed it to me last night. It didn't seem ready to hatch, though." The bronze whuffs, and struts regally up to the girl's shoulder where he nibbles on a loose strand of hair. Stuff's getting long. "There, now.. you're all right, yes?" The stablehand carefully checks to make sure Asheron's hide wasn't abraised from his quick summer sled, then turns back to Serriena. Her hands idly gather up the spiderclaw shells as she talks.
Abalonie blushes clear down to the neckline of her dress, giggling softly as she rocks the baby in her arms back and forth, shaking her head in the negative, "Um.. no.. I just woke you up.. I didn't think it was good for you to sleep here on the beach.." She rises carefully to her feet, doing it so that she doesn't toss sand everywhere. She smiles at Tasuki gently, in an effort to banish his embarrassment at what he said.
Twilight> In the back of the hold, something finally stirs from within and those
outside are treated to the sight of ten baker apprentices and journeymen walking out of the hold. In each hand, they carry a tray with those remarkably delicious and wonderful bubbly pies which everyone has been speaking of. They smell wonderful, no steam rising from them, because they've been cooled for those who will compete in the contest. Just behind her students, the Master Baker Fenwick has a pleased grin on her face, holding a wooden spoon in her hand satisfied with the work done by her kitchens this day.
Twilight> Kevin rubs his chin in thought, tasting one. "Hmm..these are good. Perhaps I misjudged them, eh Tatiana?" Licks his fingers.
Magmus squints, hearing bits and pieces of various conversations. A shrug is given, as the hunter's eyes gaze around the area quickly, looking for something..
Twilight> *SMACK* Fenwick brings her mighty weapon, that wooden spoon down upon Kevin's knuckles. Her apprentices all jump and then giggle amongst themselves, familiar with this sort of punishment for doing something wrong. The wooden spoon has been known to numb even the hardest of knuckles. "Watch how ye be eating my pies," the female Master grumbles. "They are for the contest and if I catch you snitchin anymore I'll be telling the lord holder on you steward." She glares at him, but underneath is a twinkle in her eyes and a glance sideways to her students to let him know he can't get away with it in front of them.
Twilight> Kevin leaps back with a yelp. "Oh, my word, Was that /utterly/ neccasary? By the first shell, that'll leave a bloody mark." Assess the nicely growing bruise on his right hand, rubbing it softly.
Serriena nods to Dara. She looks at Abalonie and Kinsarin and notes, "I better get back to the weyr before J'nah catches me out and about." She holds out her arms for the babies. "And I think they are starting something that way," she indicates the Hold.
A loud yelp is heard from the direction of the courtyard-Followed by a light giggling.
Tasuki bites his tongue litterally. The little pink tip sticks out from between the white teeth. He mumbles and then stands up fully, getting the rest of the sand off of him. "Oh sleeping on the beach isn't so bad. Just got to make sure you don't sleep to much or the sun will burn you." He winks at Abalonie only and then says, "Shall we go to the hold and see what is happening?"
Twilight> Tatiana sneaks off one of her own bubblies while Fenwick is involved with Kevin, holding it behind her as she stands just a little bit behind the Steward and smiles at Master Fenwick, "Master Fenwick, I understand the need for discipline, but, please, stop hitting people. He's not much good to us if he can't use his hands..."
Magmus hears the noise, and decides to investigate. "Hmm...see you all there..." Begins to walk in the direction of the Hold, Steel following in tow.
Twilight> More pies are brought out, so far there seem to be twelve trays with ten pies each on it. The apprentices look at the headwoman snitching pies behind the master's back. "No she'll be after you," one girl, a redheaded baker whispers to Tatiana.
Magmus heads back up toward the Hold proper, vanishing over the dunes.
Magmus has left.
Twilight> Magmus comes up over the sand dunes from the beach.
Twilight> Magmus has arrived.
Kinsarin blinks off to the courtyard and obviously, his curiousity is piqued. He gently hands Jorrien in the pink blanket back to Serriena. "There you are," he murmurs.
Twilight> Kevin grumbles, caressing his wounded hand. "Uggg. That was definately not the highlight of the gather." Sighs, glaring angrilly at Master Fenwick.
Chirp? "Are they?" Asheron and Dara speak at the same moment, blinking in unison. Scary coincidence. "Well.. let's go see what they're up to, hm?" The little bronze chirps once, twining his tail 'round Dara's neck like a copper choker as she rises, dashing her hands in the surf before she turns. Wherhide boots wheel, spraying black sand as Dara takes off in a quick, easy sprint for the Hold. Who said she wasn't curious?
Twilight> Tatiana taps her finger against her lips lightly towards the little redhead, then smiles at Kevin and taps her shoulder, "Come on, Kevi. Just forget it. Let's go see if they have anything cool we can put on your hand.."
Dara heads back up toward the Hold proper, vanishing over the dunes.
Dara has left.
Twilight> Dara comes up over the sand dunes from the beach.
Twilight> Dara has arrived.
Twilight> Magmus walks in from the beach, a rather full-looking Brown Firelizard and a sleek canine following him. He quickly notices the bubbly pies, but thinks better of it as he notices the Steward cradling his hand, and Master Fenwick smiling indolently. "Heh, what happened to you?"
Kinsarin follows off after Dara.
Kinsarin heads back up toward the Hold proper, vanishing over the dunes.
Kinsarin has left.
Twilight> Kinsarin comes up over the sand dunes from the beach.
Twilight> Kinsarin has arrived.
Twilight> The Master Baker of her craft chuckles, eyes lighting up and she waves her spoon at Kevin. "Snitch another and you'll have to deal with me." She laughs and tends to her pies, her students gathering close as more are brought out.
Twilight> Kevin bites his lip, murmering. "Pish posh...I'm almost positive that wasn't neccassary." Is not getting over the fact his hand has the red imprint of a spooon on it.
Abalonie nods her head a little as she hears the cry and giggling, adjusting Ginta in her arms and saying, "Sure.." She smiles at Tasuki, then begins to head towards the courtyard, her skirts leaving a few trails in the thick sand.
Tasuki nods his head and quickly starts off after Abalonie. "I'd Race you but your wearing a dress."
Twilight> Tatiana gets Kevin away from Master Fenwick and promptly hands him the bubbly pie, "Oh, stop whining. Here." Tatiana was always the one better at doing something along these lines, even as she heads off for a moment to snag a cup of juice.
Twilight> Kevin smiles triumphantly, sticking his tounge out in the direction of Master Fenwick, whose back is currently turned. "Ahh, still hot from the ovens." Bites into the pie, eyes closing as he tastes the warm berry juices.
Twilight> Kinsarin just waits quietly. He seems to be very hungry. All the better to have a bubblie eating contest on an empty stomach, right?
Twilight> There are many gathering for what should be a fun contest. Over two hundred bubblies have been baked for those gathered. The Master and her staff have been very busy making all types of berry bubbly pies for this event. The pies have been cooled, so as not to burn the tongue that eats them. "Is it time?" Ria, of Ista Weyr wonders aloud.
Abalonie pauses a moment to head to Serriena and return Ginta to her with a moment of lightly moving back a little lock of baby-soft hair before she pauses and smiles at Tasuki, saying, "I'll beat you there!" She picks up her skirts and does her usual light-footed run towards the courtyard.
Twilight> "I smell something. Don't you?" Chirp. Asheron smells.. food! Launching from Dara's shoulder, he wings his way over to the pies. The little firelizard hovers for a moment, until his senses discern it is -not- meat, but that stuff his human pet seems to enjoy. With a snort, he alights on her shoulder again. "I.. see," Dara murmurs, responding to a mental image from the 'lizard. "Well.. you can't use your hands, though. I wouldn't like to get dirty." Empathetic chirp. Dirty is bad. This from the flitter who demands almost daily oiling. Hmm. "..oh, shells. I'm hungry, aren't I? I could use a free pie!" Dara flashes a rare grin - Asheron pulls himself up, snorting once. What? This is unprecedented! He nibbles at the girl's ear - no, he's not mad - and wings his way over to perch in the branches of a courtyard tree.
Serriena moves off towards the weyr.
Tasuki was busy looking at Serriena and the babies when Abalonie starts off ahead of him. "Oof, Cheater." He chuckles as he runs.
You abandon the black sands of the beach to splash into the cool water of the ocean.
You follow the coast toward the looming distance of Ista Weyr.
You head back into the shore, toward the black sand of the beach.
You follow the slight incline over a few sand dunes to emerge in the jungle clearing.
Twilight> Tatiana bumps her hip lightly against Kevin's as she says, "Mm, you're welcome." She just flicks him a wink and takes a sip of her juice, leaning mostly on her left leg.
Twilight> Abalonie comes up over the sand dunes from the beach.
Twilight> Abalonie has arrived.
Twilight> Kinsarin starts staring longingly at a bubblie pie before finally giving in and taking one, eating it slowly. He makes sure to savor it, because he's not going to eat anymore until the contest. He's not going to be gypped again, no no. Last night was bad. Today is gonna be different.
Twilight> Kevin nods quickly, as if totally forgetting he unsuccesfully nabbed the pie-and Tatiana did. "Oh yes..well..I left a little for you?" Extends a quarter of a pie crust, laughing a laugh which he knows he shouldn't.
Twilight> More people gather, children, old men, even the plump warder from the previous night. "I've been practicing for this forever," his grumpy and still too loud for normal conversation voice can be heard by those around him and more. The pies are all laid out and with resolution the Master Baker wanders near the tables where the contestants will participate. "If you will please take your seats?" Fenwick indicates the tables.
Twilight> Tasuki comes up over the sand dunes from the beach.
Twilight> Tasuki has arrived.
Twilight> Kevin grabs Tatiana by the hand and leads her to a table. "This time, you MUST participate. Gather games are so much fun, my dear headwoman." Smiles cheerfully.
You follow the easy downhill of the Island Road toward the Hold, passing through the jungles along the base of the Weyr's mountain.
You follow the easy downhill slope of the Island Road, beneath the arch and into the courtyard at Ista Hold.
Twilight wings up and disappears into Between.
Twilight has left.
Magmus obeys the Master Baker, taking an empty seat. Steel trots his way, situating himself underneath the table-waiting any scraps from anyone. Do canines like bubblies too?
Tatiana lets out a slight eeping sound as she gets dragged along, saying, "Kevin! Let me go!
Tatiana lets out a slight eeping sound as she gets dragged along, saying, "Kevin! Let me go!" She laughs and tugs at her hand, saying, "I am /not/ going to cover myself in bubbly-goo!"
Abalonie runs into the courtyard and drops her skirt easily, turning quickly a bit and smiling back at Tasuki as he comes up behind her. She sticks out her tongue, just a little, and giggles, "I win!"
Kevin shakes his head, grinning joyfully at his friend. "Oh come on, it's fun! You like bubblies, you know you do." Tickles the headwoman, making sure she stays seated.
"Please be seated!" The Master Baker is too far away, or else her spoon would have found Kinsarin's knuckles as it did Kevin's. As it is, she's smiling so she must not have too hard feelings about her pies being snitched. Ria sits as well, and one could almost beware the gleaming challenge in the red-head's eyes. She picks up a napkin and situates it about her neck preparing.. it would seem.. for the contest.
Serriena comes up from the Weyr Road, panting a bit from a mad dash from the weyr to the Hold. She skids to a stop next to Abalonie and her voice is bursting with nervous energy as she asks, "Am I too late to start?" She holds no children and tells Abalonie, "I put them with the weyr nannies for now."
Tatiana reaches up to grab Kevin's hand and yank him down into the seat next to her, saying, simply, "If /I'm/ doing it, then /you're/ doing it. Sit down, Kev."
A coupled image of Eating and Clean drifts into Dara's mind, with a stern Do This tagged to it. "Yes, ne'er you worry," the girl assures the firelizard. He warbles, and Dara moves to take an empty seat at the end of a bench, near Asheron's tree. A napkin is picked up, tucked around her collar in a mimic of Ria's motions. I do believe she has no idea what she's doing.
Kinsarin quickly sits down. Ayup. He licks his lips as he finishes the last bite of his smuggled bubbly and looks smugly at the Master Baker.
Magmus eagerly waits the directions, shaking his head towards Serriena. "Naw, they didn't start yet. Yer lucky too, free bubblies is the way to go!"
Kevin blinks. "Meee? Oh no, I really couldn't. It would give the hold a bad look, if there Steward gorged himself on bubblies..." Forgets to mention anything about the Headwoman, grinning slightly. A sublte joke, which will probally end up in a severe scolding.
Tatiana rises easily to her feet, turning her torso a little to look at Kevin over her shoulder with one brow raised, "Kevin. Either sit down, or I'm not doing it." Her gold eyes dare him to even try.
Tasuki looks at Abalonie and smirks. "Yes you win." He laughs and looks at the young woman for a moment, it is obvious he let her win for he doesn't even pant. "Let us take a seat, shall we?" he motions with his hands for both ladies to take a seat. While he waits to see what the girl does he unbuttons his shirt and begins to take it off. Reveiling his bare sorta tan chest and worked muscles. The shirt is placed on a chair away from everyone and he explains himself. "I don't want to get pie all over my shirt." He has a twinkle in his icy eyes and then takes a seat.
Kevin looks as if hes about to whine, but then smiles evilly. "Ok....Lets make it intresting. If I eat more then you..ohhh...You have to Dress in drudges cloths..." Grins playfully.
"If you've read the rules," The Master Baker points to the small sign giving the contest guidelines, "You know you have to keep your hands behind your back at all times, no touching the plate or pie." Her voice becomes more pronounced to send it to the back where some might not hear her. "Also you have to eat the entire pie. You may leave crusts but if there's any part of the pie left, it will not be counted." She points to her apprentices and the servants milling about. "They will replace your pies in front of you as you finish them. "Please remember these rules and if you feel sick, let us know." She glances at each contestant, "And if you can't keep them down once eaten, you will be disqualified." So said, the master baker asks, "Are you ready to start eating?" There's a grin on her face but she still hasn't said the word go yet.
Abalonie isn't panting at all either, looking around for an empty seat. She looks at Serriena when the lady arrives next to her and giggles a little, in spite of herself. Seeing a pair of empty chairs, she turns a bit to smile at Tasuki and offers, "Good luck, Tas!" before grabbing Serri's hand and dragging her along to sit down.
Magmus casually removes his suede vest and new shirt, putting it on the side of his chair also. Tiny scars criss-cross 'round his chest and stomach, very pale in color compared to the rest of his golden tanned skin. He makes no attempt to explain them, but smiles anyways. He already has his hands placed behind his back.
Kinsarin smirks at the others, nodding slowly, an evil look resembling quite easily the old Kin, to the Master Baker. He intends to win this, definitely. Will he? Maaaaaybe. Time tells.
Serriena sits down with Abalonie. She notices Ria up front and a groan escapes her. "That girl doesn't have a stomach. She has a hole for a stomach!" The complaint is heard by Ria who turns and grins at Serriena because the redhead is confident she will win. Serriena wraps a napkin around her neck and prepares to 'eat.'
Tatiana puts her hands on her hips, scoffing lightly, "That's not fair. You always eat more than I do.." She glances over towards the Master Baker and hms a bit, then back towards Kevin, lifting a brow.
Kevin notices two men opt to take there shirt off, but the more dignified Steward simple takes a few pieces of spare cloth and tucks them into his shirts collar. "Hmm...Brains over Brawn, anyways..." The Steward grumbles slightly, hands behind his back as well. Kevin grins at Tatiana, nodding. "Ok...if you /do/ beat me...I'll wear a dress. But thats only if you win." Nods. He is quite sure he'll beat her, at least.
"Place your hands behind your back," Fenwick holds up her hand. The apprentices and the servants each turn and place a bubbly pie from their trays before the contestants, the cool smell of berries rising up from each dessert. "Ready..." Fenwick's grin gets wider. "EAT!" Her hand drops in a motion to go!
Magmus drops his face into the still steaming pie, beginning to gorge himself on the rich Berry goodness that is called bubbly! A barely audible "Erpmh isvtiv grood!"
Serriena has her hands behind her back. At the Master Baker's signal her torso leans forward. There's only one way to eat bubblies when your hands can't hold them. She puts her face into her bubbly pie and with that scarfing motion begins to eat the first bubbly pie before her. She's giggling and eating, a bad combination because it slows her down.
She's not really planning on winning - but she'll give it a shot, no? Yeah. This suits Asheron just fine - gorging one's self is most undignified. He hasn't done that since he was.. a hatchling? The kingly little bronze chirps once; Dara clasps her hands behind her back, blinking once at the pie before Fenwick's shout reaches her ears. Now.. what on -earth- to do. Oh, yes. Dip face into pie. (Cue startled squeak from Asheron.) Bite. Swallow. Repeat ad nauseum.
Tasuki smiles back at Abalonie and gives the same sort of encouragment she gives him. "Good luck to you as well Abby." He takes the napkin and instead of placing it around his neck he uses it almost as a bandana and ties the hair out of his face. Then he looks over towards Fenwick and then looks down at the pie placed in front of him by a drudge. He sniffs the thing and moves his hands off the table behind his back. Soon he is already diping his face into the pie starting at the middle and working his way out. He takes his time and does not rush eating the first pie. After a while his nose is covered with the filling.
Kevin squints, glancing at the now feeding people. Sighing, the Steward dives head-first into the pie! So much for being respective to the Holds image. Even "Mr. Propper" Is eating like the messiest drudge in a mad race to finish his bubbly.
Tatiana makes sure to tie a napkin about her neck, keeping her hands behind her as she leans forward and takes neat, easy little bites, being strangely neat for someone in a pie-eating contest. Thankfully, it seems to be working.
Kinsarin quietly moves to sit next to none other than Ria. Hm. Either he's admiring another lady, or he couldn't see another place to sit, or the evil smirk he sends her way means something. Of course, he says this before Fenwick gives the signal... :P He quickly puts his hands behind his back and buries his face into his first pie. He manages to close his eyes and go into... a meditative state? Hrm. He manages to eat the pie at a fairly rapid pace. Licking the filling out while using his teeth to sweep in the softer crust, not a sound comes from him other than the greedy eating sounds.
Magmus lifts his face up from the almost finished bubbly, panting for breath. Smeared across his face is a strange design of berry, juice, and bits and pieces of crust. "Heh, this is fun! Umm..can I have another?" He asks grinning, as an apprentice places another steaming pie infront of him. "Ugg, here we go again. At least I didn't waste any marks /this/ time." The hunter says before he drops his jaw and begins the feeding process, as ravenous as a blooding bronze.
One pie, two pies, Ria is quick, that is certain. One pie is finished and then another place before the redhead from Ista. She doesn't notice Kinsarin, so intent she is on eating her way to a prize. Her stomach can handle it. She can eat four meals at one setting, so this is a breeze. Serriena in the back, near Abalonie is munching her way through the first pie. When she finds the bottom of the pie she yelps, "DONE!" only to have another placed before her by a waiting servant.
Kevin looks up, noticing Magmus already down one pie. "Oh, my word. This is harder then I thought." The Steward proclaims, more then half left of his own. He peaks over to see how Tatiana is doing, as he wipes a bit of juice from his face.
Tasuki chomps down on the pie slowly, and the wander looks over and see's someone already nearly finishing there first pie and he's not even half way done with his. Instead he takes his time and gets his face covered with even more of the mess. He looks up and notices Magmus already ordering a second pie and so he dives back into the pie in front of him and unfortionately the pie plate starts to slide away from his face, making it harder to eat the pie.
Swallow, chew, swallow, chew. She used to wolf food like this - well, up until she hit double-digits agewise, and Rakane made her stop because she 'ate like a starved runer,' to quote. The old technique, or lack thereof, comes back rather quickly - pie disappears at a rapid pace, and before long Dara raises her head. Another pie is placed; head drops, and she starts again. Asheron burps contentedly in his tree, full from his spiderclaw meal.
Abalonie just sits there in a chair, with the others watching the contest, keeping her hands over her mouth as she giggles to herself, dark auburn bangs dangling down over her eyes.
Magmus casually licks the bottom of the second plate, the juice now dripping down his chin and onto his bare chest like a mighty purple river. After a few more laps, the plate is thrown down. "Weeeeeee... Free bubblies, what can be better?" The greedy hunter grins, as if two pies is nothing to him. Another is
place down, his third, and he begins the process all over again.
Kinsarin licks up the last of the filling and sends a glance to an apprentice with obvious meaning. He himself is fairly clean, amazingly enough. The empty tin is exchanged with a full one, and as he leans over to begin eating again, he sends a glance at Ria, feral. Something up his sleeve, perhaps? He plunges into the second pie, quickly making it disappear.
"Bring on more bubblies!" The warder roars this. Purple and red goo is all over his face and there are three discarded pie crusts near him. Seems he's fast. But another man is faster, finishing four at the same rate. Both men eye each other across the table before heads dip once more to eat bubbly pies.
Tatiana finishes off her first pie and doesn't call anything out, just waiting for the apprentices to put another one in front of her. When they do, she returns to her technique of neat, but quick eating. She's not going too quickly, but at least she's eating.
Surprsingally, the Steward managed to finish one bubbly! Another is imediately placed infront of him, as he begins to groan. "Oh dear..." He murmers to himself, dropping his face into the pie to try and get two down...After all, Tatiana /is/ trailing behind him.
He didn't know Dara could eat that much. Usually he's the one who's too fat to fly after a meal.. err. Dara gulps down pie, careful not to choke on a stray bit of berry. First the inside is dug into, then she clears the edges, the idle thought of what a sight she must make passing through her mind. Oh well. Dara raises her head, thankful she tied her hair back today, and starts on a third pie.
Magmus is more then half way done with his third pie, his once goldeny bronze skin tone now a smattering of flecked purple and red-Definately not an attractive shade.
Tasuki is one of the last to finish his first bubbly pie. His face is lost in a mask of dark purple and blue. A berry or two stick to his face and then he scrunches his nose and a whole bunch of the goop falls to his pants. Soon a drudge brings over another pie and he looks at it quizzingly. Then he sighs and begins to eat the second pie, starting on the outside and working his way towards the middle.
Magmus takes a breather, putting the plate down. "Hmm..maybe I should go a bit slower?" The hunter asks, but decides against it. His face is dropped back into the slimy mess of the pie, quickly devouring the remaining pieces-besides the crust of course. As if by empathy, an apprentice places a fourth pie infront of the ravenous feedings of the hunter. "Oh by the first egg, this is getting ridiculous..." He begins to stammer out, but never acually finishes the statement because he has already began to gorge himself.
Kevin is looking rather squemish as his second pie is placed infront of him. "Oh dear...not good, not good at all. How are you doing, my dear headwoman?" Cranes his neck over to watch Tatiana, picking at the new pie placed before him.
Slow and steady wins the race? Not really. With a groan and a shove after eating four pies, Serriena pushes back from the table. "No more!" she says placing a hand on her full stomach. "I can't do it anymore!" This escapes as suddenly she burps ...rather loudly.
Up front, Ria has chowed down through five bubbly pies and will continue to eat them, regarding Kinsarin and his eating out of the corner of her eye. She does have a hole for a stomach, one filling up as well.
..causing Asheron to nearly fall out of his tree with a screech of surprise at the loud sound. The sound makes Dara pause - just at the moment she finished a bubbly. A fourth goes underneath her; seeing the bronze is ruffled but unhurt, she goes back to eating. Again. That little part of her mind that starts to nag when you get full? Dara's trying to ignore that, though a fourth bubbly hasn't filled her up yet.
Kevin growls in the most feralist of tones, completely going wild. Teeth gnash angrilly at the pie as it was some tunnel snake attacking friends, his fourth slowly diminishing to a pile of crust and messily spilt juice. His whole side of the table is covered in it, including himself. A nearby holder begins to edge away from the man, quite disgusted at the young mans display. Another pie is placed before him, his fifth. He acknowledges Ria with a growl, trying to catch up.
Kinsarin voraciously plows through his second pie, scraps to both sides of him. However, most of it ends up in Kin's mouth. He's slowing only a little as he waves for another pie before actually finishing the one he's on, never looking up from it. The pie is set down next to him by an apprentice and as soon as Kin finishes his current pie, he quickly turns to the next one. He eyes Ria and from the look on his face -- he's amazed. Obviously his prior looks have been devious, for he now puts his plan into action: he scoots towards Ria, attempting to nudge her away from her pie. Hah! See how fast she can eat /now/! And the rules didn't say anything... Right? He continues chowing, and grins as his fourth pie disappears.
Tatiana simply finishes off her fifth pie, quietly watching Kevin as he finishes his fourth, then calmly settles in on her sixth. She looks not so much like it's a contest, but more as if it were simply something everyone was doing.
Kevin blinks, noticing all the attention he has drawn. He decides it might be best to slow down for a bit.. "Oh my...I've made myself quite dirty, haven't I..."
Tasuki see's some people already getting stuffed and he smiles. The wanderer has plenty of room left, he took is nice and easy at first but now he speeds up and starts to catch up. The second pie is not eaten, It is inhaled. The plate is practily licked clean with only a few remnants of the crust left. He looks up and a third pie is placed in front of him and he digs in greedily as if it were the only food he has eaten in sevendays. The top lays is already being injested and Tasuki doesn't stop to chew, nope the food is just swallowed down and now he is practicly coved in blue and purple. With some red mixed in between. The third pie disapears as quickly as it came and he lifts up his head and before he can look for a drudge the fourth one is thrown down in front of him and he starts to scarf it down.
Magmus casually finishes his fifth with little display, noticing that Kevin has already gone animalistic. "Good show Kevin!" The hunter smirks, as the fifth pie is crammed down his throat as his head is thrust into the pie.
Oh but the redhead is not scared off her pie. She nudges Kinsarin back, hands still clasped behind her. Her face is black and red from the good of the pies and there's even a bit of orange in there. There's a grin on her face as she eats, biting into her sixth pie, the crusts from her other pies scattered around her. The warder, as fat as he is, throws up his hands after his seventh pie shouting, "NO MORE!" He sits back just in case the urge to finish eating should sit upon him.
Kevin shoots the hunter an angry look, glancing unsteadily at his bubbly. "Hmmph... " He continues to revert back to a behaved manerism, casually picking at his bubbly. He managed to get this far...should he stop?
Serriena watches Kevin laughing at his antics. In fact, now that she's not participating as much she says to Abalonie, "This is pretty funny." Of course there's red goo and black smears on her face when she smiles at Abalonie and there's a dip of blue on the end of her button nose.
A fourth is finished - oh, she's lagging behind. Dara wolfs down her fifth, gulping down juice and crust like a last supper. Yes, well. Ignore that slight full feeling, -eat.- She's not quite as feral as the others, going thorugh in a measured, brisk way. Likely it's due to her growing up with a gaggle of sisters - girls who mostly pick at their food. No competition in that. Bite, swallow, bite, swallow, bite-metal? That'd be the pie tin. Dara gets a sixth pie, and a reproachful look from Asheron. No, I do not know that black and blue stablehand over there..
Magmus hums dandily, his hair now slicked with the juice and crust. Oh, will he need to bathe tonight! Hearing the warder give up, one of the biggest competition in the game, makes him result to eating faster. Crust and berry simotaneoulsuly begin to disapeer, and finally he lets out a ferocious roar. "Aha! And the Six is downed...now lets try seven." Continues to rip into the pie, his stomach expanding, his abdomen muscles keeping the fight constricted in his cavernous stomach.
Quickly the pies baked by the apprentices and journeymen baker disappear. Fenwick looks pleased no bubblies have been rejected. But then her students learned from the best. The Master Baker watches as the pies slowly diminish one by one. "Are ye enjoying this?" She calls out laughing her spoon still wielded in her hand.
Tatiana pauses a moment as she works on her eighth pie, licking her lips and obviously pondering for only a moment. Then, she tilts her head down again and begins working on this new pie, still about as calm, neat, and quick as can be.
Kevin sighs, finishing his pie. A wicked glare is given to Fenwick. "Your pies have seduced me! Blast you..." The steward says, noticing Tatiana's pile of plates. "Oh dear...I don't want to have a dress..I say we stop the competition, eh?" He pleads the headwoman.
Kinsarin hasn't noticed Kevin's antics, grinning as he wolfs down his sixth pie, an apprentice moving to hurriedly replace it. Digging into his seventh, he starts eating faster, taking smaller bites but swallowing them whole, which really makes for faster eating. Knowing Ria will beat him if he doesn't do somthing, he tries to think of ways to get her to use her hands... or perhaps not. It now seems that he's going to try somthing later. His seventh pie whittles away quickly.
Eyes gleam from those who watch and count the amount of tins tossed aside. One person is walking between tables keeping tally. Just to the side of everyone a small boy is working his way through his fourth pie happily. "Don't overstuff yourself Elan!" is called from a young girl cheering him.
Magmus flails wildly, throwring the pie-crust enfilled plate in the air, causing Deacon to chitter angrilly. "Here here, Another one!" His seventh pie is placed before him, his head moving like a smiths hammer, ripping into the steaming pie.
Kevin desperately trys to catch up to Tatiana, unwilling to lose to her. "Oh come now..We were only joking, right? I would never make you wear drudges cloths.." Says with a grin, trying to stop her from eating.
Tasuki sucks out the rest of the filling from the fourth pie leaving behind the crust that takes up to much room in his belly. The drudge comes over and points to a spot he missed and then the filling is slurped up and he replaces the pie and Tas starts to eat the fifth. Chomping away like no tomorrow, not really looking at anyone else. By the time he finishes the fifth pie he has to sit up and belch. A hand is raised to his mouth and he excuses himself as the drudge puts down another pie. Almost sickened by the sight of all these people injesting the food he moves away from Tasuki and then the red headed traveler just starts to pig out even more, eating like a young firelizard, filling his gullet with the rest of the six pie. A hand is raised towards the drudge to bring over another pie. But he takes a moment to breath before he starts to eat this one.
Giggles erupt from Serriena watching the other compete. She flicks her gaze over the pie eaters, even the warder has started in trying to finish and add to pies eaten. Ria has complete several pies, a large number of tins and crusts sitting next to her in a pile. The pies dwindle until only a scant few are left, signaling soon the contest will be over.
Kevin sighs, respectively stopping on his sixth pie-which is more on him then in his stomach. "Oh shards, I give up..this is to much..I'm going to be dreadfully sick if I eat another bite." He repeats dreadfully and sick quietly to himself, observing how everyone else did.
Kinsarin polishes off the seventh pie as an apprentice sets down and eighth. He grins at Ria, then slams his chin down on the right side of his pie plate -- sending the pie flying through the air toward the side of her face, hopefully to hit her. He waves for another bubbly and tears into it, quickly finishing it and moving on to another, his pace picking up as he takes large bites and gulps them down whole.
Magmus finishes his eight pie, and moves onto his ninth, unable to stop. Chomp, chomp, chomp, the hunter is embarassing himself immensely. Pie dangles from his lip, and is quickly dispatched. Even the apprentices are weary of the man, but a ninth-what looks to be his last pie, is placed before him. With a deep breath, the man submerges his head into the bubbly, lapping up both liquid and crust alike. "Uggg..no...more...noooooo." He shakes his hands as an apprentice attempts to place a tenth infront of his gaping maw, unable to eat one more.
Nine is satisfactory for the man, ten would be just a tad over-doing it...right?
Dara's been busily eating all this time, measuedly devouring pies one after the other. She's slowed a bit, not wishing to die of gorging the day after. Her firelizard is looking rather bored - well.. maybe he'll try this human food. A stealthy bronze shadow slips over to where the few remaining pies lay. Asheron arches his neck, opening his maw wide for a mouthful of pie. Uh. Back on the other end of the table, Dara devours one more pie, and finds it to be her limit. The stablehand raises her face, lower half coated in berry juice. "Oh.. I think I'll stop now. I couldn't eat another bite," she decides simply, feeling berry juice and crust settle into her stomach.
Tatiana finally pauses, sticking out her tongue in a show of disgust as she says, "Blah.. I don't think I'll be hungry for the rest of the sevenday.." She seems to debate whether or not to try and stop now, and simply takes a few more bites out of it before leaning back to give her stomach a nice rest.
Tasuki finishes the pie he has in front of him and then looks around in a daze. Without even warning the drudge brings over another pie and Tasuki looks like him as if he were mad. "Another?" He questions and the drudge just nods and the pie covered Tasuki digs into another pie. This one he cleans until he can see the shine of the metal. The drudge comes over to inspect the plate and nods his head signaling that the pie is done. Tasuki drops his head to the table as if saying ok enough. The poor chap ate so much he forgot how many he has, he just mumbles something about his jaw hurting now and so does his stomach.
As soon as all the bubbly pies are gone, the Master Baker calls out, "Are you full yet?" Groans come from some participants causing Fenwick to laugh. "Good to hear!" she calls laughing. From between the tables, the man comes, scribbling on his hide each amount the people in the contest have eaten.
Kinsarin hrms quietly, finally stopping. "Too much pie..." he mutters. "And my chin hurts." Obviously, after what he did to the plate with it in an attempt to slow Ria!
Ria turns to grin at Kinsarin, red goo turning up ina smile as well making her seem freakish. She uses the napkin around her neck to attempt to wipe off some of the stuff. "Serves you right," she humphs.
Magmus nods in agreement with Kinsarin. "To much, indeed. I'm glad I removed my gather shirt, or It would have been ruined." Laughs slightly, trying to wipe
most of the purple coating off of his body. Yuck.
Asheron's pie is.. snatched away? A drudge gives him a rather contemptuous look, whisking the pie away for one last, straggling contestant. The 'lizard's jaws clamp down on air, and he splutters as best a reptile can. These things taste awful! Winging his way over to Dara, he hovers above her head until the girl's cleaned off her face sufficiently with quick swipes of her napkin, pulling it from her collar beforehand. And then he alights, inspecting a talon as if nothing had happened.
After much delibitation and calculating, the man removes himself from between the tables. He counts up the totals and then walks over to Fenwick showing her those scores. "Is this right?" she questions and the man nods. "Well what do you know." She grins and looks over the contestants. "I think we have the results in." Her smile just says she's dragging this out deliberately.
Kinsarin looks indignantly at Ria. "Hey! I didn't cheat!" he states with a giggle. "You probably won anyway," he mutters.
Magmus looks awfully sick, barely able to look Fenwick directly in the eyes. "Uggg....my stomach.." Groans slightly.
Serriena giggles.. "Someone get the fellis juice!" she quips from that sign that hangs mentioning it should have been brought to the contest.
Tasuki looks up to Fenwick and cleans his face at the same time. Big blue eyes looking out from behind the remants of the pies, peeking out from the mask of food. Soon it is all wiped off leaving the same quiet Tasuki. Watching and listening with anticipation.
Abalonie sits in her chair with her hands clasped in her lap, looking a little anxious as she nibbles her lower lip and watches the Master and the warder both. She's going to wear out that lip some day..
From a distance, Zineath wings his way down from the sky overhead.
From a distance, Zineath drops down to the black sands of the Hold's beach.
"It seems," The Master Baker's eyes are gleaming as she speaks. "We have two very hungry people. They both at the same amount of pies." She looks down at the hide and murmurs, "My my, fourteen pies. How will you two keep them down?" Her voice is laughing and she enjoins, "I do hope you keep them down, because my students worked very hard to make them."
V'lin comes up over the sand dunes from the beach.
V'lin has arrived.
Kinsarin looks around. "Ria... and... Tas?" he guesses, glancing at the two and shrugging as he waits for the verdict. "C'mon, Fenwick," he mutters to himself. "Quit drawing it out..."
V'lin strolls along hesitantly, straightening his less-than-formal clothing as he moves. Without the company of weyrmate or best friend, Val seems a little... bewildered. Puzzled. For the moment he only confides quietly in the bronze-hued firelizard friend that sits upon his shoulder.
Magmus props his berry-stained mouth up his hands. "Ugggg...can't eat...will never eat....I hate bubblies..hate them.." Trys to convince himself, with little effort. The hunter is done, and will probally not be able to move for many days to come.
Tasuki belches again into the napkin. Despite everything he is polite. Yes indeed. He looks over towards Abalonie and gives her a questioning glance. Then when he hears Kinsarin's comment he is even more confused and thinks to himself for a moment. Fenwick is now the center of his attention as he awaits to announcement.
"Shells.." breathes Dara, sitting back. She.. doesn't really care who won. Hey, she's full! Asheron chitters, standing on hind legs to stare balefully at Fenwick with whirling eyes. One paw rests on the girl's ear; she wipes a last bit of berry from her lips, and reaches up to stroke her firelizard's eyeridges as she does when thinking.
Kevin wipes his lips off in disgust, light flickering off the sapphires and diamonds of his ring. "Silly game...I don't believe I did this. Ohh, I stained my shirt!" A high pitched whine emits from the Steward, eyes narrowing. Oh, will the drudges of Ista hold pay for this, even if it isn't there fault, he will be having a talk with the warder verrrry soon.
Abalonie shrugs helplessly to Tasuki's questioning glance, tilting forward a bit to look at Master Fenwick. She does, however, finish by flashing her friend a bright smile. At the high pitched whine, she blinks.
"That's twenty-eight pies between the two." Fenwick shakes her head and then states, "Will Kinsarin and Tasuki please come here. If you can move that is." There's laughter in her voice and she uses her wooden spoon to motion them from within the contestants.
Tatiana nudges Kevin with an elbow and says, "Oh, stop it, you big baby.."
Kevin grumbles indignantly. "We're not acually gonna go along..with that little bet, are we?" Smiles apprehensively, cheering on Tasuki and Kinsarin.
Tatiana smiles sweetly at Kevin, but only looks away from him towards both Tasuki and Kinsarin.
V'lin pauses at the outskirts of the crowd, hands sliding into trouser pockets. He watches as best he can, silently, quiet even when the bronze critter on his shoulder fans his wings a few times and smacks Val upside the head. Apparently the dragonman's used to these antics.
Magmus jaw drops. "14 pies...wow, thats amazing. They're going to have to be carted back to the weyr in there condition." Offers them both a grin, wiping pieces of pie away from his maw.
Kinsarin stares at Fenwick. "Me?" he asks, looking shocked. "Um... I think you must have made a mistake," he says. "Ria ate more pies than I did, I thought..." he mumbles, but who's he to refuse a win? He realizes that he shouldn't argue, and slowly moves towards Fenwick. Very slowly, with a hand on his stomach. He's off balance as well, to be quite honest.
Tasuki looks at Fenwick a bit surprised. His hand wiping some pie from off his chest and there is now a dark blue stain that runs over the muscles there. He has to look presentable right. And he stands and looks a bit woozie at first and then gets himself to sit more upright and moves towards Fenwick with a dumfounded look, following Kinsarins slow pace.
Serriena looks up at V'lin from her table and waves to the BROWNrider. There's still a bit of red goo on her face and that dot of blue on her nose that someone really should tell her about. "Hello V'lin!" she calls cheerfully. "How're you?"
Abalonie just starts clapping brightly, smiling as she calls, "Yay!" It's a soft, sweet cheer, but a cheer nonetheless. When she bounces in her chair a bit, her hair bounces as well, but she doesn't seem to mind, just smiling like always.
V'lin looks about himself, but there's no denying his name. Slowly, he wanders over to Serriena's vicinity. And although he's reserved, verbally, he does dig into a pocket to offer the lady a rather worn bandana. "Well 'nuff, I s'pose." His gaze strays away from his fellow Weyrfolk to the crowd of people.
Asheron cheeps a bit dejectedly. His Darapet didn't win! "There, na.. I ate my fill, and that's quite enough for me. After all, I could've won another firelizard egg - and then where would you be?" Well, that's simple. He'd get less attention! The bronze chuffs, realizing, and both commence praise with the rest of the crowd - Dara by clapping, Asheron by a high, rolling trill that rises over the low human voices.
"Well that's good," Serriena grins and takes the rag. She wipes her mouth and cheeks but there's still that spot of blue. "So how have you been? How is Zineath?" she questions.
Master Fenwick smiles at the two boys as her apprentices remove the now empty trays and tins along with the servants. "You two ate quite a lot of pie," she peers at both of them. "You may choose a prize from the table although if you like my cooks and I can whip you up some more food to fill in the empty spaces of your tummy." A wink follows those words.
V'lin leans down to filch his bandana from Serriena's hand, and wipes away the spot of blue, himself. "I'm alright." My, how verbose. "Zineath's..." A moment's pause to think and make contact. "Ruinin' his ridin' straps."
"Ruining his riding straps?" Serriena raises a brow. "How does he do that? Is he chewing on them?" She flicks a gaze over towards the beach area and then looks back at V'lin with curiosity in her eyes.
Tasuki gives Fenwick a you got to be kidding me look. "As good as your Cooking has been, I don't think I could eat another bite Master Fenwick." He smiles at her with that innocent look. His gaze is drawn over to the prize table instead and the bright purple bag catches his eye. The color intruiging him he asks. "Can I have that purple bag. I like the color, And I can put some things in it. Looks to be made of fine workmanship." Examining the purple bag from afar.
Kinsarin hms as he takes a small case, and opens it to reveal a reed flute. He blinks a little, giving a laugh. "A flute, eh?" he asks rhetorically. "I haven't played one of these since I was... Faranth, how long ago?" A long time, Kin? "Oh, yes, a very long time. I couldn't remember for the life of me how to play it... I might have to find a harper to teach me," he says with an impish grin. He smiles at Tasuki. "You're lucky," he kids. "You don't have to find someone to teach you how to use that."
V'lin folds up his bubbly-filling-dotted bandana and shoves it in a pocket. "No..." he replies to Serriena, shaking his head. "He's swimmin' while clothes, as 'twere." Somewhat belatedly, he allows a mild spatter of applause as the prize is chosen.
Kinsarin looks nearly ready to throw up all over Fenwick as he turns nearly green. The evil, evil, evil woman. He turns and trudges toward the table of prizes. He somehow expected to be... well, happier if he won. No such luck.
Serriena grins. "I'm sure he doesn't realize he's ruining his straps." She flicks a glance over towards Tasuki and questions, "What's in the bag?" She watches as Kinsarin tries to choose a prize.
Quite sickly looking, Magmus is hunched over on the table. He does keep a mild intrest on what prizes are chosen, probally because he had made a bet on what was in them. Seconds Serriena's question. "Aye, what is in the bag? Hopefully what I think it is.." Grins.
"Oh, he knows," V'lin says, although he doesn't sound particularly perturbed that he'll have to make new straps for his dragon. "When they swell up an' tighten, I think he'll learn his lesson."
Serriena looks at V'lin her midnight eyes sparkling with laughter. "I guess he'll have to live and learn." She chuckles and then stands from the table. "I must be getting back to the weyr. If Jorrien has woken up, he'll be crying until I get there." She gives a small sigh.
Tasuki opens up the purple bag and pulls out a Finely hone belt-knife. He examines the knife and smiles. But then his attention goes to the bag, it seems he was more interested in the bag than what was inside. But when Serriena and Magmus ask the question he says. "It's a really nice belt-knife." Holding it up towards Magmus and Serriena.
Magmus nods, smiling. "Aye, very nice." Can't help but wonder if the Hunter lost marks on this one or not, and if he is: hes hiding it will.
V'lin loops his thumbs at his belt, and sends a glance toward Tasuki's prize, eyeing the knife critically. "Need a ride?" he asks Serriena. "So long's you don' mind gettin' that dress damp."
A nod of her head indicates Serriena will. "It is a beautiful knife Tasuki," Serriena smiles. "And your reed flute is divine," is said to Kinsarin. "I'll be back later," she smiles at those around. "J'nah thinks I'm crazy because I'm going to try my luck with dragonpoker." She looks up at V'lin. "Will you be playing?" She rises and adjusts the tips of her skirt and then smiles at V'lin. "I don't mind that Zineath is wet. I'm sure he'll dry when flying."
Kevin stretches, looking around at the congregated. "Ahh, that was enjoyable, I suppose." A slight smile is offered as he glances at the scroll. "Hmm, according to this, theres going to be a big dragonpoker game later on this evening..." The steward nods, stretching his tired limbs.
Magmus haggardly puts his shirt and vest back on, his flesh now clean of the berry. "Uggg...dragonpoker? Another way for me to lose more marks, gambling's corrupted this hunters 'poor self." Chuckles, but then stops-his stomach probally thought it wasn't as good as an idea as first concieved.
"Playing?" V'lin echoes, as he offers a hand to Serriena, indicating he'll help her up. How...gentlemanly? "Dragonpoker? Mebbe. Don' gotta lotta marks." Not that anyone could tell, right? He's only wearing his everyday clothes...
Kinsarin hms. "Dragonpoker?" he asks with a frown. "Someone will have to teach me how to play... I've seen it before, but never learned to play... Perhaps I can rake in enough marks to hire a harper to teach me how to play this instrument," he says with a laugh.
"I think the limit is a three mark bet maximum," Serriena grins. She stands up with V'lin's help ready to follow him to the beach where her ride to the weyr awaits, getting his leathers soaked and ruining them for his rider.
Kevin smirks. "Only a three mark limit? For shame..." He speeks with such authority, once wonders if the Steward is adept at the game. "I'd be willing to teach folks, ifn' they want..." Smiles slightly. "For a half a mark, of course."
Kinsarin turns to the rider. "I don't suppose you could give me a lift?" he says with a chuckle, obviously joking. "Not even to a bubbly-weighted guy like me?" He trudges towards the beach. "I'm gonna go sun this fat off," he states, patting his belly. A little too hard, perhaps, and he starts to turn green before willing himself not to upchuck. He shakes his head to Kevin. "I ain't payin' anyone," he says with a grin.
Serriena shakes her head suddenly changing her mind. "You know V'lin, "I should probably walk." She pats her stomach. "Although I thank you for the offer." she smiles. "See you in a while." She turns and heads out underneath the archway to the Weyr Road.
