Lots of tourists go to Mexico and never have these questions.
But if you're the kind of person who wants to know about the place you're in, you'll find Mexican history to be both fascinating and daunting. There is so much history in that terribly complex country that you need a scorecard to keep track.
Well, here it is. Although it's very compact, less than 70 pages, it's jammed with names, dates, and places, with the historical events in chronological order. Some background descriptions are included, plus short biographies of the main characters, as well as some particulars on Mexico's many indigenous groups. The most important feature is a detailed cross-index by dates: If you have the name of a person or a place, you can quickly see if there's information in the reference.
And it's free!
The history reference is a PDF file, roughly 500 KB. If you don't have a PDF reader, you can get one for free from Adobe. A shorter-download reader that works fine is Foxit Reader, also free.

Choose from two versions, depending on what kind of printer you have. The difference is whether the wider margins are all on the left side, for printers that print only on one side of the paper, or the wider margins alternate, for printers that print on both sides.
Karma Check
The history reference is a gift to you. Think about giving back where it can make a difference. If you don't have a favorite charity, consider donating some small amount to mine.
