When I first came across this title, I was confused as to what the title, Fushigi Yuugi meant, but as the story goes on, you begin to forget the fact that you don't know what the title means and just enjoy the story. (It translates as "Mysterious Play")

Fushigi Yuugi has some of the most memorable characters you'll ever come across, the art is admirable, and the music, voice acting, and story all fit into a classic in the making.
The characters are what make or break a series most of the time, and Fushigi Yuugi doesn't disappoint. Miaka, along with the Suzaku Shichi Seishi (the 7 Suzaku Warriors) all have their own little quirks that make them loveable. They all intereact and make the story flow much easier. The 7 Seishi from the side of Seiryuu also have their own little quirks to even out the amount of quirkiness (sorry, I had to ^_^) the series displays.

The music is another high point for the series. Right from the beginning, you know that you're going to enjoy the music. The opening theme has a flare all its' own because of it's rhapsodical motif (multiple styles of music) and pumping beat in the background. The background music is also excellent and should be taken notice of. The ending theme takes a bit of getting used to as its not the same style as the opening theme, but after a few listens to it, you too will understand why I love the music.
The voice acting is excellent, from Miaka's muttering from hunger to the ever loved Chichiri's "No da", (Yay! ^_^) to Hotohori's girl imitations, they all express a liveliness not seen in many anime.
The story in Fushigi Yuugi is fascinating to say the least. The fact that the entire show is technically coming from a book is a very cool concept and within the story, you'll find drama, action, comedy, suspense, heartbreak, sorrow, and happiness, all rolled into a neat little (I lie like a dog, VERY big) package.

If you haven't seen this show yet, do yourself a favor, get off the computer and go rent...wait no...BUY this one. It'll be a sure bet that you'll like it and want more, but be wary, we at ASTC cannot be held resposible for any trouble that comes from angry parents/boyfriends/girlfriends/teachers/etc...because you cant get away from the television.
