Land Rover Owner article - Summer 1996
                    2909 F   1957   88  Series 1 Land Rover

I acquired this vehicle in November 1976 as my first car. Why a Land Rover? Not really sure, my metalwork teacher at school had bought a Series 1 to tow a boat that he had built, I think he was a little eccentric and it must have rubbed off!
After having bought it I discovered that it had stood for approximately 10 years before being sold. It wasnt long before things needed repair and with the help of friends engine, gearbox and brakes were all given the necessary attention, although in those days as a student with my parents footing the bill repairs were very much just what was needed to keep it serviceable.
It was first registered on the 25th April 1957. I dont know much about its early history other than it was taxed as a goods vehicle and had obviously been worked very hard. It was originally a hard top, but this was replaced with a new soft-top when it was sold to me. Since the early eighties it has been fitted with a station wagon hard top and rear door.
It has never really been restored, although since starting to attend shows and rallies in the late 80s repairs have been carried out to far more exacting standards and every effort has been made to preserve originality.
Until January 2001 it was our main family car and was used as my everyday transport, sadly a change of work location now makes this impractical.

2909 F is the original Essex registration number.
