By some strange phenomenon I have the New York accent. Some women like it which is cool, I guess. But alot of people hear me say something like "dog" or "car", then they get the idea that if they repeat what I had just said while mocking my accent that it will be stomping funny.
Living in an area where you have an accent is pretty rough though. I actually have a procedure for ordering coffee at Denny's. I have to ask for a decaf first, and drink it really fast. When the waiter comes back to fill my cup I then tell him I'll have regular instead. If I were to actually say "coffee" he would do what everyone else does. He would drop his mouth and say "You sound like you're from New York, you know I have an old friend there, his name is Orville Pigdicker, do you know him?" Like all New Yorkers have a special bond amongst one another.
It's been even worse since September 11th. As soon as someone hears my accent they ask me "awww how do you feel about the World Trade Center falling down?". Like my perspective is going to be completely different from what any rational human being would think. I've recently started telling them "I'm glad they're down, finally we can get a good view of the fireworks on 4th of July.". The look on their face is worth being barred an unethical bastard.
