| I heard something pretty disturbing on the news recently. Apparently some Arab Americans who support the United States as well as Islam think it's disrespectful for the President or anyone else to say "God bless America" when reffering to the war on terrorism, especially since the terrorists are radical muslim groups. It's feared that the Muslims will take that phrase as a sign of disrespect to their religion since this war, is thought in the Arab world, to be a holy war or Jihad. I can understand why there might be confusion there, but the Muslims are using the name of their god, Allah, in their slogans verbally bashing the U.S. So why is it ok for the people of Iran to say America is the "head of the devil" as they say it, but it's not acceptable for an American to use a slogan in a perfectly secular context? Suppose the United States does decide to be carefull with what they say in effort to not offend anyone, where will it end? Would we have to stop saying "God bless you." when someone sneezes? Or avoid saying "God damnit." when a man can't keep his penis erect for five minutes? Should we substitute "goodbye", which is a compound word short for God be with you, with "Smell you later."? We live in a world with billions of people and millions of opinions we can't have everything how we want it. If it were up to me I would shoot anyone who makes more money than me, have Funkervogt played all day over a huge P.A. system, while I lived in a huge mansion with my mistresses Thalia, Rashel Diaz, and other various novela stars. Can't you left wing cocksuckers use your respected voices to bitch about something usefull like euthanasia, the rain forsest, or Mr. T. |
