Biography

 

 

Born in Toulouse, France in 1969, and having spent his childhood in Cameroon, this bass and double bass player has performed with various artists in different styles, such as  Francis Bebey, Miriam Makeba, Kristo Numpubi, Toure Kunda , Papa Wemba, Busi Mhlongo, Sam Tshabalala, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Justin Vali, Baco, the gospel choir  The Cherubs. He produced Coco Mbassi’s CDs SEPIA and SISEA, and recorded the latter. He also participated in soundtracks for films (ex: Les Tresses by Jacqueline Kalimunda) and synch music (ex: the CD Africa Pop released by Koka Media).

•Holder of a teaching diploma for classical double bass, obtained at the very famous Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, Serge Ngando received a serious classical training.

•But before that, during more than ten years, he studied jazz – especially be-bop – using sound documents of jazz musicians such as John Coltrane or Charlie Parker, and also in jazz schools (Jazz Action Montpellier, Arpej etc…) on the electric bass.

A multiple-talented musician, he also plays the guitar.

•He happily mixes his Cameroonian influences with his love of Jazz and classical music – Johann Sebastian Bach being his favourite classical composer. Serge Ngando now lives in London, UK.
