Around Sicily's coasts

Look to the red line on the map...this is my journey with my motorcycle (a 125cc !!!)

This year I decided with my girlfriend to visit Sicily...I was there when I was young but I visited only Palermo and Ustica. This time we decided to make a Palermo-Palermo. Starting from Palermo through San Vito Lo Capo, Sciacca, Agrigento, S.Leone, Marina di Ragusa, Portopalo di Capopassero, Marzamemi, Taormina, Letojanni, Castelmola, Etna volcano and Cefalu'. It was a very long way, sometime we did more than 500 km in a day...but it was unforgettable, strange atmosphere involve you in this wonderful island. Three are my most impressed memory of those places, Marzamemi, Taormina and Etna.

Marzamemi is a very small town with few houses but the feelings that you can experience there are very particular. We found a good camping but one thing was terrible...it was hot all the time. Also if it seems stupid, all that hot is the thing that I remember with most homesickness. It could look like strange but it was one of the most deep feeling that I've ever experienced.

Taormina...who doesn't know this famous town ?!? It is one of the most beautiful towns that I have ever seen in my life. The camping was on the sea, it was very rustic but comfortable. During the day we often went to Letojanni where you can find long beaches of fine sand, a transparent sea and few people. Someone uses to plant their tent directly on the seaside...it is prohibited in Italy but you know...one thing is the law, another is what does really happen ! However I envy them !!! During nights we went to many restaurants and walked through the alleys of the town, very crowded all the time by day and night. We saw also the concert of Battiato in the Greek Theater...an opened theater with seasight and bright stars on your head...something very special.

Last, Etna. It was very tiring for my motorcycle to get there but finally we arrived. We did a little trek to one secondary side of this volcano. It would have been to much expensive to get the top of the volcano, we decided for a mountain lunch after days of fish-cooking. It was very strange, and pleasant. I still remember the smoke going out from the top of the volcano, all the day...every day (you see it very well also from Taormina), it is a presence, always with you.
