To Contact A Higher Power

Why do we pray?
We pray to contact a higher power or powers than we ordinarily have access to.
You may call this power God. You may think of it as many gods or spiritual beings. You may not think of it as any God at all.
You may feel that this power is wholly other than yourself. You may feel that this power is yourself.
You may think of this power as dwelling in a faraway heaven. You may think of this power as inmost in your own nature.
How you think about the power you are trying to contact will make a difference in the prayer you use.
But it will not change your purpose in praying.
For you purpose in praying is to quicken into activity the creative processes that lie at the root of being and out of which the world takes shape.
A tree grows from its roots upward.
A tree grows from its leaves downward.
Hesitantly, tremblingly, yet boldly and firmly, a tree thrusts its roots down into invisible, limitless deeps.
Hesitantly, tremblingly, yet boldly and firmly, a tree extends its leaves up into invisible, limitless deeps.
A tree gives itself to the unknown, at its root-tips, at its leaf-tips-and touches life and draws on life and expresses life.
Exploring, trusting, unfolding, assimilating, a tree grows, taken shape, and becomes what it is to become.
So it is with me.
I grow from within out.
Up from depths deeper than I understand a stream of life force wells.
Down from heights higher than I comprehend a rain of life force falls.
Prayer is a way of reaching up-to forces higher than my own.
Prayer is a way of reaching down-to forces deeper than my own.
I would grow and change.
I would change myself.
I would change my world.
I would grow to have more power, more wisdom, more love, more life.
I would do all I can to quicken the forces on which this growth and change depend.
This is why I pray.
Prayer puts me in order so that the life force may be used by me more effectively, so that the life force can flow through me without hindrance, freely, exuberantly.  Then I breathe in living thoughts and breathe out happy acts.
I am like the ladder on which Jacob saw the angels going up and coming down out of heaven. When I am right with myself and in order, there is perfect movement from my inner world to my outer world, and from the outer world to the inner world.
Life gives itself to me without holding back and I give myself to life without holding back.
Through me the life force expresses itself, and I express myself through the life force.

Affirmative Prayers -

In Meeting Many Things:

Be still and know that I am God.

Divine order is now established in me through the power of the indwelling Christ.

I am in divine order.

God is in charge.
This is His world.
I am His child.
there are His people.
Now is His time.

God is love. Lovingly in the hands of Love, I place myself.

I am a radiant, all-wise, all-loving, all-conquering child of God. I rule supreme in all the affairs of mind and body.

When you need a sense of life and aliveness:

I love life and life loves to express itself through me.

When you need healing:

God is my health, I am know it now.

God is love. God, I relax in Your healing love.

My mind and my heart are attuned to the harmony of the universe. I think and I feel life, life, life.

When you feel alone and lonely:

Lord of love, let me be a friend when a friend is needed. Let me have a friend when I need a friend.

When you need to feel at peace about things:

Peace surrounds me and enfolds me. My eyes behold peace. My lips speak peace. My fee walk in paths of peace.

When facing a crisis, making a change:

Fear fades into nothingness; I am filled with courage, for I anticipate only good.

When you need guidance and direction:

I think only God-centered thoughts and I am guided into God-directed action.

When you want to bless someone else:

You are God's child, kept in His love, living His life, doing His. work.

I behold the Christ in you.
