Navajo Afgan


  All sc. are made in the back loop of sts.         
  All dc. are made in the front loop in second row down from one being used.
  Work from same direction on every row.
  Each row is worked seperately. Do not trim work. Leave 4" of yarn at the
     beginning and end for fringe. Use crochet hook H.

               For afgan 60" x 48" yarn needed 
                     2 - 4 ply black yarn
                     3 - 4 ply grey yarn
                     3 - 4 ply red yarn
                     3 - 4 ply white yarn

               For afgan 72" x 58" yarn needed
                     2 - 4 ply black yarn
                     4 - 4 ply grey yarn
                     4 - 4 ply red yarn
                     4 - 4 ply white yarn
     
 Using black chain 245 sts. for 60" x48" and 285 sts. for 72" x 58"

Black  Row 1 thru 5- sc. in each st. across
       Row 6- 3 sc , 1dc (19 sc, 1 dc) repeat (thru) end with 2 sc
      
Red    Row 7- 4sc 1, 1dc (17 sc,1 dc,1 sc, 1dc) repeat (thru) end with 3 sc
       Row 8- 5 sc. 1 dc(15 sc,1 dc,3 sc, 1 dc) repeat (thru) end with 4 sc.
       Row 9- 6 sc. 1 dc(13 sc,1 dc,5 sc, 1 dc) repeat (thru) end with 5 sc.

Grey   Row 10- 7 sc 1 dc(11 sc,1 dc,7sc,1 dc.) repeat (thru end with 6 sc
       Row 11- 8 sc 1 dc(9 sc,1 dc, 9sc,1 dc) repeat (thru) end with 7 sc.
       Row 12- 9 sc 1 dc( 7 sc,1 dc,11 sc,1dc) repeat (thru) end with 8 sc

White  Row 13- 10 sc,1 dc(5 sc,1 dc,13 sc,1 dc) repeat (thru) end with 9 sc.
       Row 14- 11 sc,1 dc(3 sc,1 dc,15 sc,1 dc) repeat (thru) end with 10 sc
       Row 15- 12 sc,1 dc(1 sc,1 dc,17 sc,1 dc) repeat (thru) end with 11 sc
Black  Row 16- 13 sc,1 dc( 19 sc,1 dc) repeat (thru) end with 12 sc.

       Repeat Rows 15- 14- 13- 12- 11- 10- 9- 8- 7
       Repeat row 6 then begin pattern again with row 7.
       
    When afgan reaches desired size repeat rows 1 thru 5 after row 6 
to complete border.
