Dance With Me

(I do not own Sailor Moon or any associated characters. So there! Oh, and Uranus and Neptune are in this one, and for those (like me) who are more familiar with the dub, I warn you, forget you ever heard the word �cousins.�)

She sighed again, looking around her room. Black walls, and hanging lights like a field of stars. It usually made her feel peaceful, but tonight it just made her feel lonelier. �I shouldn�t feel so depressed.� She kept telling herself, to no avail. �I knew nobody would ask me, and there really wasn�t anybody I really wanted to go with.�

�But other girls didn�t have dates to go the dance with.� The other part of her mind responded. �They went anyway though, didn�t they? With their friends. I can�t even do that.�

�Oh no�� She whispered as she felt the tears start to fall. She knew she�d be crying all night. Everybody at Mugen School thought she was a freak. Who�d want to go out with her? Who�d even want to try and make friends?

There was a tap at her door. �Just a second!� She called, wiping her face. She hopped gingerly out of bed and smoothed out her usual black outfit. She opened the door, feeling a rare smile spreading across her face as she saw the small, pink-haired girl standing on the other side. �Rini!�

Her only friend in the world was standing in a very cute pose, hands folded behind her back and one foot in front of the other. She was wearing a yellow dress, and with that, her bright smile and fairylike face, she looked like the rising sun next to Hotaru�s night.

�Hi Hotaru! I know it�s kind of late, but Amara and Michelle said there was a dance for your class and well�I came to cheer you up!� She tilted her head. �Have you been crying?�

�Oh�no!� Hotaru smiled, brushing her pale face again. �Don�t be silly.�

Rini stepped forward and took Hotaru�s hand. �I�m not being silly. You�re my best friend, Hotaru. I know when you�re sad.�

Hotaru�s hand went to her mouth. �Oh Rini� you�re so sweet.� She felt tears in her eyes again. �I was feeling a little lonely before, but I�m feeling much better now.�

�Good! You don�t need those meanies from your class, Hotaru. We can have a dance right here. If you don�t mind dancing with me, that is.� As she said the last bit, she sounded very shy, and a little blush crept up her cheek.

�Of course, Rini!� The two went back into Hotaru�s room. One thing Hotaru did have was a great stereo system, and they danced to it. Most of what they danced to had a fast beat, and with Hotaru�s weak constitution, Rini ended up doing most of the dancing for her. Hotaru clapped her hands and laughed as Rini danced gracefully across the floor for her.

Then Rini popped in a slow track. �I think you can dance to this one.� She said, blushing a little again.

�I think you�re right.� Hotaru replied, standing up and holding her hands out to Rini. Rini actually hestitated for a moment, then stepped forward.

Holding each other closely, the two young girls danced , bodies swaying to the music. �You�ve made me so happy.� Hotaru whispered.

�I�m happy too.� Rini replied. It may have just been Hotaru�s imagination, but the smaller girl seemed to be trembling.

When the song ended, Rini led Hotaru back to the bed and sat down next to her. They were silent for a very long time. Rini suddenly looked over at Hotaru with an unreadable expression on her face.

�Rini? Is something wrong?�

Rini�s face was very flushed, and she looked like she was about ready to bolt. �No�I just�� Without warning, she leaned over and kissed Hotaru full on the lips. It was like they were frozen in time. Hotaru didn�t move for a long moment.

�I�m getting my first kiss.� The thought passed through Hotaru�s mind, and she closed her eyes and returned it. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the two separated. Rini was grinning from ear to ear.

�I was so worried you would scream, or run, or something.� She said.

�Well�no.� Hotaru smiled shyly. �I�m surprised. But�it was nice.� She reached out and took Rini�s hand.

�Remember when I said I was your best friend?� When Hotaru nodded, Rini continued. �I�want to be more than that. Is that weird? I mean, we�re both girls.�

�Well, just look at Amara and Michelle.�

�I did.� Rini got a dreamy expression on her face. �I actually had a little crush on Amara for awhile. I think Lita does too. But then I realized I like you a lot more.�

�I like you too, Rini.�

�Good!� The two smiled again, looking into each other�s eyes as they continued to hold hands. Then Rini stood up. �Dance with me some more, Hotaru!�

�Okay Rini!� Hotaru stood up and began to dance, warmly holding her best�no, her girlfriend as they swayed to the music.
