"Speech"
'Thought'
When the dining room was ready he let the servants go home and went
upstairs to shower before Kazuya came home...
Part Two
True to his word Kazuya did come home earlier than usual. He didn't
say a word to Lee regarding what had happened that day, and sat down
immediately to dinner. Dinner was at least normal with neither of
them speaking to the other. He would get up periodically to get food
from the kitchen that was warming on the stove. Had the regular
servants been there they would have brought out each course. It was
after dinner that the normal routine altered. He got up to go get
ready for his nightly chore, but was stopped by his foster
brother/boss' words.
"Not tonight Lee, you won't be going tonight. I'm giving you an
official night off. We have things to, discuss."
His heart clenched at the words. "Yes Mishima-Sama, of course."
"Come then, let's go to the dojo out back for our discussion."
He really didn't want to go, but like an obedient puppy he followed
where his master went. The dojo portended ominous circumstances;
one's involving a lot of bruising and blood shed. 'A talk indeed, he
probably means to beat me. I swear if he tries to hit me... I don't
care I'll run. I'll forget everything and leave here for good. I
won't stay and be his personal punching bag, I've had enough of that
kind of treatment.' The rice paper, sliding doors of the dojo loomed
despondently ahead. He followed the bigger man's lead inside the
traditional training room.
"There now, we won't be interrupted, brother." Kazuya said.
"M... Mishima-Sama I..."
"Save it Chaolan. I've made some decisions regarding your schedule.
I've decided to rearrange it a bit. After reading some of your
reports and Nina's handful, I realized that you seem to do all the
work for that particular responsibility; so, since Nina is not
upholding her share of the work I demoted her. You will be sole
supervisor of all operations."
"But, Mishima-Sama..." He was cut off mid protest.
"I know, you doing all the work is what led you to slack off in the
first place, but I'm not finished. You will no longer be responsible
for the secretarial duties for the management office; you will now be
my personal secretary, not answering to the other executives. I'm
sure they'll be quite displeased; you did the job extremely well
after all. Hell, you were practically doing their jobs for them.
That office wouldn't really run if it weren't for you."
He was a bit peeved that his demeaning duties, and he were being made
to sound so indispensable when he and they were quite
replaceable. "You make it sound so grand, my job of fetching
everything for everyone, and their paperwork, and taking their calls."
"You were doing their paperwork truth be told. Don't assume that I
didn't notice them pawning off their assignments on you."
"You never did anything about." He accused.
"You did a better job, so I kept my mouth shut."
Lee could feel his anger growing at this. He was being knowingly
used. Still, how was Kazuya changing anything for him, his day
workload was lightened, but his evening load was increased. Nothing
had really changed. Then the karate champion spoke again.
"You will no longer supervise the hired help, or be accountable for
the housework. You will be allowed to leave work at five p.m. every
day, whether all of your assignments are completed or not."
He wasn't very thrilled at this turn of events; he could sense there
was something else. Something hung between them, an awareness of
some matter yet unspoken, of something held back. "You are being so
kind, why do I sense there is something else you haven't mentioned?"
"There is. Nothing comes without its price. In return for making
your life easier you will have to earn this leniency. You will have
one new duty..."
He wondered what that would be. He didn't have to wonder for long.
With a smirk, his foster brother leaned close to whisper into his
ear. He recoiled away from the older man at what he heard. "No
way! Are you insane? Are you out of your mind brother? That's...
That's just sick. We are brothers." He paled and stepped further
away from his leering foster sibling.
"Not by blood, we have no blood ties between us. You are adopted,
Lee."
"But... By law..." He stuttered.
"No! You want an improved existence under my rule, after what you
did... You betrayed me; I shouldn't have even allowed you to remain
here. You want higher standing you earn it. And, keep in mind I can
always take what I want, and neither you nor anyone else would be in
a position to stop me. I'm being kind enough to give you a choice.
Choose wisely Chaolan, I will be awaiting your answer."
