Reiki (pronounced RAY - key) is an alternative healing method.� The word means "Universal Life Energy."� It is a safe, gentle, non-invasive healing method that orginated in Tibet over 5,000 years ago.� Thought to have been lost for more than 1000 years, it was rediscoved in the 1800's by Japanese teacher, Dr. Mikao Usui who then passed it on.
Sessions are performed fully clothed on a Reiki or massage table.� Session last between 30 minutes to 120 mintues depending on needs of client and practitioner.�� A session begins with the practitioner describing what to expect in the session and showing the client the hand positions that will be used.� Hand positions are the same for all clients, regardless of the client's health problems.� Unlike most healing methods, the nature of the client's health issues is not needed by the practitioner as the body will send the healing energy to where it is needed most.�
The client is then asked to lay on his/her back� and once comfortable the practitioner begins to place her hands on the client's body over their energu centers or chakras.� Usually the treatment begins at the head and moves down to the feet.� Depending on time of session, the client might be asked to lay on his/her stomach to repeat the treatment down the back.� Hand positions are held for about 5 minutes each.
Most clients find the session very relaxing, often falling asleep.� Some feel completely energized after.� Either way many report feeling quite refreshed afterwards.� Some report also feelind a warmth or a tingling from the practitioner's hands as the energy is being channeled.
