Ever so humble, ever so pure
Refusing submission, denied her allure
Season to season, no eating, no sleep
Engulfed in her pillow, the tears she did weep
She begged and she pleaded, forgotten, dismayed
Her actions rejected, affections betrayed
With barely a shudder, her heart turned to ice
Sworn that a heartbreak would not happen twice
Thinking emotions a useless array
Shut down the feelings, to forever delay
The coldness she acted left her unaware
Of the torture, the anger, the pain, the despair
Completely convinced, that to loss she was prone
She followed her pathway in silence, alone
Too many paths scoffed at, too many not crossed
Too many neglected, and now she was lost
A whisper behind her, a whisper ahead
And all in an instant, her heart filled with dread
A force pulling backwards, but none to alarm
Turned to look back at what brought her harm
To stay in the moment, or keep moving on
Fear of what waited so far and beyond
Feeling the anguish absorb her once more
She heard the voice call from ahead like before
The voice so misleading, the words too endearing
She wondered if it might be silently jeering
But right into focus came those sullen eyes
The warmth that she felt took her all by surprise
With just a small whisper, he held out a hand
And just for a moment, she only could stand
Her hand reached for his and it closed around tight
Melting away all the distrust and fright
Instead of an onslaught, or a sudden strafe
There was only the kindness, and now she felt safe
Ice in her heart melted, emotions ran through
She bid all the things she was fearing adieu
So giving her concerns their timely demise
She knew that heartbreak would not happen twice
