July 8th, 2001I don't know if you all have heard the news, but AD Vision is in negotiations to release a subtitled, uncut version of Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R. If you didn't already know, ADV is the company that is currently releasing all of the DiC episodes on video. It's far from final, but they announced the negotiations at Anime Expo, so it must be a somewhat serious bid.

March 31st, 2001Sailor Moon will temporarily be taken off the Toonami block. It will end on June 7 with the last episode of the 3rd run of Sailor Moon SuperS. It will return later in the summer probably starting with episode 1. Start recording those episodes now, or else, wait until summer and forever hold your peace.

Sailor Moon VHS and DVD releases

2001 BECAUSE the DVD's are announced BILINGUAL! They contain 3 eps each. The
first volume will be called Pure Hearts and the second one will be called Love War. Yes,
both VHS and DVD formats will be available. They can be pre-ordered at Amazon.com***More on the ADV dub. 2 more volumes has been announced! Volume 5 is titled "Red Hearts and Silver Crystals" and Volume 6 is titled "Introducing Sailor Jupiter". The previous 4 volumes have all been released and are in a store near you!

--Animation Gets Oscar Recognition--
The Motion Picture Academy has agreed to create a separate category for animated feature films, but the nominations would appear only when at least eight animated films are released during a year. The Academy has argued in the past that so few animated features are produced annually that all of them would receive a nomination if the category was instituted. Under the new rule, if 8-15 features are released in a year, three would be eligible for nominations. If 16 are released, five would be eligible.

According to the Cahners publication, Video Business magazine,
the dubbed version of the "Sailor Moon R" feature hit #8 of all VHS
sales in the United States & Canada. The release remained in the top ten for 4 weeks, then dropped to #21 and, as
of this writing #31 performing much better than we or anyone else had expected! And all this with no advertising!
(Well, there was an ad in Animerica from Suncoast but talk about preaching to the choir!)
New Sailor Moon...the pressing question
New Sailor Moon? Well, the creator of Sailor Moon, Naoko Takeuchi has proven to her fans that she shows interest in creating more Sailor Moon stories. However, she has placed somewhat of an "ultimatum" to any publisher, including Kodansha, the past publisher of Sailor Moon, of what she wants in a publisher. I suppose that means we won't see any new Sailor Moon until Naoko's "ultimatum" has been met. Optimum Productions, the Canadian translating and dubbing company responsible for all the the currently existing English dubbed Sailor Moon, has confirmed that they are in the midst of
translating the 77 episodes of the Sailor Moon S and Sailor Moon SS TV seasons for US broadcast. ***WOOOHOOOO*** :)

Representatives for Toonami have confirmed that DIC is currently dubbing and editing new episodes of the Sailor Moon TV series for broadcast on the Cartoon Network later this year. ***YAY*** Presumably these episodes will come from the Sailormoon S season. ***DOUBLE YAY*** In the meantime, the currently airing Sailor Moon episodes will soon be retired from the Toonami line-up. **BOO** ;(
