Serena Chen

Short biography

I was born and grew up in Surabaya, Indonesia. I had my B.Sc. degree in electronics engineering from Petra Christian University, Indonesia. After completing my degree, I worked for 6 months as International Roaming Engineer for Lippo Telecom, a GSM 1800 mobile telephony operator, before deciding to pursue my study further.

I continued my study at Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) with a full scholarship from Nuffic. I graduated with an M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering, majoring in Communication Networks.

Afterwards, I joined my graduation group at Delft University of Technology as a Ph.D. student from the year 2003 until 2005. My research topic was about the robustness of complex networks.

Following my short adventure as a PhD student, I joined User-System Interaction, a 2-year post-master techonolgical designer programme under the Stan Ackermans Institute, Eindhoven University of Technology. I completed this programme in October 2007, earning a Professional Doctorate in Engineering degree.

I am looking forward to work as a user experience designer and/or interaction designer -- to explore, do research on and develop (concepts for) innovative applications. My areas of interest include domotics, lifestyle enhancements, ambient intelligence and mobile devices.
