| The Serco Defense Forces were created under the "Serco Military Vitalization Act" passed by basic majority of the Serco Council in Earth year 2003. The SDF as it was known, was placed under the command of veteran pilot, Lt. Pyroman_ace. The single squadron unit was tasked with interdicting and destroying pirate craft attempting to prey on Serconian traders near the 9th planetary system. The squadron was redisgnated "Black Squadron" with Lt. Pyroman_ace taking the helm as [SDF] Black 1, and his XO became [SDF] Black 2. The SDF was met with fierce opposition by Itani privateers and UIT distrust. Additionally, several Serconian groups alleged the group was a front for terrorist activities, which included paying fees to privateers to prevent the robbery of Serco trade ships, thus preventing SDF casualities, while non-SDF convoys fell victim to pirates outside the SDF patrol zone. Following this opposition, the group was reorganized from the Executive Officer down and placed back into action. Attacks against SDF showed marked increase as noted pirate "Phoenix" declared an Itani privateer war on the SDF. The ensuing combat saw the SDF's "Vulture Fighter" highly outclassed by the Itani privateers' more maneuverable and better equipped Valkyrie-class Heavy Fighters. The war ended with the SDF withdrawing, badly damaged to Sector 9 station. Following the discovery of thousands of additional systems in late EY 2004, the SDF found itself too small to police the whole of Serco space. Additionally, the added assistance of Serconian allied defensive Vultures led to the SDF's second major reorganization. The SDF was reorganized into a 3 squadron unit (click here for squadron briefs) with a 4th squadron planned for the future of the SDF. Unforunately, the SDF was disbanded prior to the galactic boom of players as the pricipal members of the group returned to school and work. Most recently, in EY 2007, Lt. Pyroman_ace reactivated the group, with a modified mission statement. The group is now tasked under the overall leadership of Black 1 to combat increased pirate and Hive activity outside the boundaries of Serco space. These "Grey Space" threats are the primary mission of the SDF, to make the spacelanes safe once more for traders to bring their goods to Serco markets from UIT and Itani controlled space. At this point, the revitalization of the unit has been met with limited success as the effort is daunting under the new licensing system. Lt. Pyroman_ace is optimistic however that the revitalization will be extremely successful in the longrun due to the declaration of the unit as a Militia as opposed to Regular Navy. This dramatic reclassification, done solely on the order of the Lieutenant, means that instead of serving as fulltime pilots within the Serco Defense Forces, pilots can now serve as part-time members in the pilot corps. This alteration allows for the recruitment of Serco Military personnel from other divisions into the SDF as well as allowing traders and other independants to become involved in the SDF when they are not actively engaged in civilian matters. The history of the SDF has been troubled, and fraught with changes and evolution as the group has adapted to an ever changing universe. The future is bright however for the men and women of the Serco Defense Force - Pilot Corps as the SDF expands into the future of the universe, making it a brighter place for all mankind. |
