Show 'n Shine and Picnic

pavilion.jpg

On Sunday, the SE-R convention-goers went to Oak Grove Park by Grapevine Lake for a show and shine. After a catered lunch (mmm...chicken), ballots were handed out to vote in a number of catagories. Then, the raffle tickets were drawn, awarding the sponsors' prizes to Jim Fancher, Jim Fancher, and Jim Fancher. Finally, Bruce Hearn tallied the votes and the trophies were awarded by Convention Chief Lackey George Roffe.

Last, but not least, Grover Pickering was presented the first Matt Kempe Award for Spirit and Enthusiasm. He did everything from serving the chicken at lunch to putting together the track event. Matt would have loved to have been with us at the Convention (and we would have loved to have him there), so I'm glad that the SE-R community honors Matt and those who bring the "spirit and enthusiasm" that the award is so named for. George Roffe said, "Everybody who puts on an event like this one should have a Grover Pickering helping them."
