As you can see, we have included more of Sera's NICU photos on these pages. Please enjoy them and be thankful for what God did for our family!
January 4, 2001-These are pictures taken hours after her birth. You can see how small she is compared to my hand. She was very red because her body was still too immature to figure what to do with all those red blood cells!
January 7- Sera is just 3 days old and undergoing treatment for possible jaundice. She was moved into an isolette (incubator) on January 5. The picture to the left shows the whole isolette and the bilirubin lights. The picture on the right shows how they covered her eyes for the treatment (I still have those eye pads!) You can also see her holding my hand.
January 14-Sera and I (Angie) doing our first Kangaroo care. This is especially important for her (and all preemies) because this is proven to calm the babies. It helps to even out vital signs and helps them to grow better! My body heat kept her warm and snugglled (hence KANGAROO care!). Sera always liked doing this and would cry with her whole BEING when they took her off me. I always cried too. It was hard to let the nurses take her away from me but because of her prematurity, she could could only be out of her isolette for short periods of time.
January 28- Semuel & Semantha were troopers during this time! It was chaotic for our homelife and we had some trials but we made it. Eventually, the kids got to help with diaper changes and her daily cares! We were so proud of them!
January 17-Sera is wearing her first outfit! It is one that the hospital provided (We still have it!). I can't tell you what it was like to finally see her dressed and looking like other babies. I literally lost my breath when I walked in for my visit and saw her like this and Yes...I cried!
February 5- This is Sem's first time doing Kangaroo Care and he was a little nervous. He soon became a pro at it and did it as much as I did. Her head was still slightly cone shaped from her birth because of the form fitting hats she wore to hold up the CPAP.
January 28- Sera & I doing more Kangaroo Care. At this point, she could be out of her isolette for an hour or two each day. She is wearing a nasal CPAP (Continous Positive Airway Pressure). This is not a ventilator but it just made the effort that Sera put into breathing a whole lot easier allowing her to use that energy to grow!
