A Great Writer
It was nice today, but I can't give up the thermal underwear just yet.
Me, my baby and Lisa (the cat).
I live in Morgantown WV.   We have the host of cultural amenities that a university town provides.   And mountains.  Almost everything here is built on a hill, and I really like it that way.   I live a few blocks uphill from my bakery (well, I don't own it but I do kinda run it) The Daily Kneads, and I walk to work there every day in the small hours of the morning to make the bread.  Lucky, Lucky, Lucky to stumble into a nice job that lets me make things with my hands, gives me time to spend with my family, and allows me to work with some great people.  Heck, it also brought me 50 miles upstream from my vaguely dismal and crumbling hometown of Clarksburg.  (My father likes to tell the story of how our ancestors settled in the wilds beyond the village of Morgantown, so it has always been a reference point on the continuum of my history.)

My home is on a sloping alley in a relatively quiet neighborhood.  The apartment building across the street is always home to a few students (who's faces change with the semesters) and a couple of spunky old ladies, and now
Billy Matheny.  Dee and I meet lots of people at the laundromat down the street, students and teachers' families from all over the world (a diversity we never would have encountered if we'd stayed in C-burg).
The rituals of my life revolve around home and work, raising a smart happy kid and maintaining a solid marriage.  If I ever get beyond these things and find myself with some spare time, I write about all of it in a journal (have tried to get into the whole blog phenomenon, but I can't do it.  I just love paper and pens way too much).   I spend a lot of time "doing my work" (when I ask my 3 year old "What are you doing?" she always answers "Doing my work!") and while I'm physically engaged in making bread, or tidying up, I ponder the nature of humanity and the universe (OK, sometimes I do wonder what I'd do if we won the lottery).  And I've come to a few conclusions that work for me.  These "truths" have been evolving since I began wondering what was up (sometime in my early childhood), and as new things come up in my life, they seem to either fit into my framework or change it.
My Family consists of my wonderful husband of almost 8  years and our 4  year old daughter.  We're lucky to still have our parents and quite a few grandparents... Despite a host of dysfunction on both sides, we maintain fairly close ties with our kinfolk, and the select few childhood friends who have followed us into adulthood.  Our circles are small, but friendly, and our kid plays with their kids while we drink wine and eat cheese.  Some nights the grownups play D&D till all hours and the girls stay up late in their slumber party pajamas.   And thank the gods for grandparents, cause every once in a while we'll march down to the 123 to see a friend's art opening or watch a fantastic local band.
