Squirtle
Red-eared Slider
Squirtle is my red-eared Slider turtle. He is 4 years old now and just a cutie. He lives in a 55 gallon aquarium. I have tried to add a Pleco to the tank but I think that no matter what size I get, Squirtle will eat him.
When I got Squirtle he was about the size of a 50 cent piece. We took him out of a pond that our friends had in Louisiana. I now know this is not the way to get a pet, but at the time I didn't see the problem. I also had done absolutely no research on the care of turtles. I thought he would be an easy pet for the kids. Yea, sure! The more I researched, the more I realized how much this guy was gonna need to be happy. That was when the fun started. So very much to buy!
Now he enjoys basking on his log, munching on the occasional Anacharis plant, and chasing the Rosy Reds I get for him as a special treat. His regular diet consists of Turtle pellets.
As of March of '05, Squirtle no longer lives with us. I did not want to remove his page yet though. I thought it would be better to have someone with more time for him to give him a home. When I found that person, I gave him up. I believe now that he is happier and more appreciated.
