My Dream Lestat
Rutger Hauer
Rutger Hauer was originally Anne Rice's first choice for Lestat back in the good ol' seventies. Unfortunately, times change and so does beauty, and Rutger is now too old to portray Lestat. Still, he has the charisma and when you watch old Dutch films such as Turks Fruit (Turkish Delight) and Soldaat van Oranje (Soldier of Orange) you see he would have been a good choice.

Jude Law
Eyecandy eh? Jude has already played a vampire in Wisdom of Crocodiles (a.k.a. Immortal) and also starred in movies such as Wilde, The Talented Mr Ripley (for which he was nominated for an Oscar), Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Gattaca, eXistenZ, Enemy at the Gates and A.I. He is married to actress Sadie Frost (Bram Stoker's Dracula) and they have shares in the production company Natural Nylon, together with Johnny Lee Miller and Ewan McGregor.

Tom Cruise
For those who started reading the Vampire Chronicles after the movie came out (like me), Tom Cruise was a fantastic Lestat. He captured the movements, the voice, the smile, the character. For those who read the novels before the movie came out, Tom was a bad choice. Anne Rice herself strongly objected against the choice of Tom for her beloved Lestat and that is understandable. But Tom has surprised friend and foe with his performance, showing he was a real actor and not just a pretty face. For me, when I think of Lestat, I see a part of Tom's charism and looks, mixed with that of Jude Law.

Stuart Townsend
Stuart Townsend wasn't my ideal choice as Lestat, but who was I to complain? Where were Lestats blonde locks and his attittude?
Yet, after seeing
Queen of the Damned, I did like Stuarts sexiness even though that seemed to be the only thing he was good at, prancing around wearing leather pants and a see-through top. He was good at that! ;)  But, he wasn't Lestat. Only in flashes he seemed to be the powerful, Brat Prince he was supposed to be. Still I added Stuart to the list, because he is one of those rare actors who had the honour to portray Lestat (one of two actually lol). And thats an achievement. So, Stuart, dont feel pissed about this movie; it wasn't completely your fault!
