| The Story Behind
the Heroes Tribute
The reality of September 11's tragedy hit close to home when I saw the images of Firefighters climbing the stairs of the WTC as most people were headed down. My kid Brother is a Firefighter in Ottawa, Canada. You try not to think about it too much, but the dangers of the job are often in the back of your mind. This was a hateful crime, terrorism - not war. These people were not armed. These people didn't pose any threat to anyone. Most of the civilian victims were probably sitting at their desks, coffee in hand going through paperwork, doing their jobs. Others died because they ran into these buildings - the heroes. I, like millions of others found myself watching CNN almost every waking hour. Image after image of horrific, unimaginable proportions. Seeing families of victims holding up pictures of their loved ones, with the hope that someone had seen them. Waiting for survivors to be pulled out of the ruble. Waiting. I started working on this tribute as a therapy of sorts. Not being able to do very much - I guess it made me feel a little connected. Stay strong people. This was not only an attack
on America. Canadians, British, Mexicans, Asians, Africans, Australians
and people from other countries around the world died - even Muslims.
We must unite as one and say - "NO MORE!" |
