| Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought. John F. Kennedy Difference of opinion leads to inquiry, and inquiry truth. Thomas Jefferson Bernard Francis is a friend of mine of thirteen years. He is an excellent lawyer here in Kuala Lumpur and is an adviser to Pinto Xavier Institute of Philosophy. I must note however that his Ideas are for the most part of it and most of the time in conflict with what I consider to be Ideal. Why then do I continue to seek his advice? Lynne Eisaguirre the founder and president of Workplaces That Work notes that conflict if skillfully resolved would actually tend to develop more creative, innovative and vibrant organizations. She stresses that conflict must be valued because research has proven the fact that it is necessary in order to drive innovation and creativity. More that a hundred years ago John Dewey, the great thinker wrote, conflict is the gadfly of thought. It stirs us to observation and memory. It instigates to invention. It shocks us out of sheep like passivity, and sets us at noting and contriving. Conflict is a sin qua non of reflection and ingenuity.
