Submit Yourself to God
James 4
1
What
causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that
battle within you?
2
You
want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what
you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.
3
When
you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may
spend what you get on your own pleasures.
4
You
adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward
God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
17
Anyone,
then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.
As humans, we often want something and we want it now. We are not willing to wait and live according to selfish ambition. This is not good if we are going to call ourselves Christian. We have to break the bad habits of thinking, feeling, and acting selfishly.
We should acknowledge our sin (living selfishly) and determine to fix it. We should not want to be “selfish,” have things our way, be “self seeking,” be “self righteous,” be “self centered,” etc.
This is my challenge for you: recognize the times you act, think, and feel selfish. Correct your fault of selfishness in your life. Live more for God and less for yourself. This is what being a Christian is all about.
