| For those unfamilliar with Russian Mythology, the Domovoi is a house-spirit, one that if treated with respect, can control the reality in and around the house, to the home-owners' benefit. A Domovoi that's ignored or disregarded can wreak havok on the home, but one that has been honored and respected can even continue guardianship of the house long after the original inhabitants are dead, or even after the house is destroyed. Here, we see that the Domovoi has maintained not only the illusion of the inn well enough to feed and shelter guests, but to maintain the ghosts of the innkeepers. In fact, we see that the ghosts aren't aware that they're dead! Old pagan Russian superstitions say that the generous placation of the Domovoi can ensure health, prosperity, and safety to all that stay in the house. Please note that certain inconsistancies are in the story for a reason. |
