A little study on wolves:

My first encounter with wolves was when I for the first time morphed into a wolf when I was learning metamorphosis. It was a great feeling to connect myself with the wolf’s spirit and feel it’s powers.

Wolves always fascinated me since then and I spend many hours, even days tracking them and observe how they life free in the wilds, just like we Sentinels do. We couldn’t have chosen a better guild symbol.

The wolves we all know are those we encountered during our forestwalking period.

BLACK FOREST WOLVES

A grey wolf trots in from the south.
A ferocious grey wolf is nearby.

Grey and an adult, the wolf has wicked-looking teeth and powerful hindquarters.
A grey wolf is quite powerful.
He weighs about 150 pounds.

NORTHREACH FOREST WOLVES

A brown wolf trots out to the northeast.
A ferocious brown wolf is nearby.

This large creature is a mass of crouching brown fur, towering over its cousins and kin. Triangular ears protrude from its head, lined with finer hair that blurs their outline slightly, and cool blue eyes sit above its long muzzle, taking in its surroundings with diligence. There is a certain aura about this animal, a grace inherent to its movements, arrogance in its stance that defines it as a wolf even more than its physical self. Even as it licks a massive paw in a harmless act, there seems a sense of deliberateness in its motion that hints at a subtle defiance. As docile as it may seem one moment, there is no mistaking the power behind its muscles, the strength of its gait, or the intelligence behind its eyes.
A brown wolf is quite powerful.
He weighs about 150 pounds.

A black wolf trots in from the north.

A white wolf trots in from the north.
A ferocious white wolf is nearby.

This large creature is a mass of crouching white fur, towering over its cousins and kin. Triangular ears protrude from its head, lined with finer hair that blurs their outline slightly, and cool blue eyes sit above its long muzzle, taking in its surroundings with diligence. As docile as it may seem one moment, there is no mistaking the power behind its muscles, the strength of its gait, or the intelligence behind its eyes.
A white wolf appears to be extraordinarily strong.
He weighs about 150 pounds.

NOTES:
As you can see the Northreach wolves are bigger then those living in the Black Forest although their weight is about the same. The wolves in the Black Forest seem to have all the same grey collared fur while their cousins in the Northreach come in different varieties like brown, black and white. They all seem to protect their young well as I never encountered a wolf cub in the wild.
My studies also took me further around Sapience and I discovered the Black Forest wolves’ habitat goes further then only the Black Forest. The same wolves can be found in the Dakhota hills as well.

DAKHOTA HILLS WOLVES

A grey wolf trots in from the south.
A ferocious grey wolf is nearby.

Grey and an adult, the wolf has wicked-looking teeth and powerful hindquarters.
A grey wolf is quite powerful.
He weighs about 150 pounds.

SENTINEL’S WOODLORE WOLVES

Hackles raised, an adult grey wolf sniffs the air for enemies.

This adult wolf has sharp canine teeth and powerful legs, making it a formidable predator.
A grey wolf exudes a quiet confidence.
He weighs about 150 pounds.

NOTES:
Other wolves we often encounter are the Woodlore wolves that assist us Sentinels in protecting Nature and ourselves. They are not entirely the same as the wolves found in the Black Forest or Northreach but they seem the closest related to the Black Forest wolves. Their weight is about the same as well as their fur colour. And their most visible features are their teeth and legs for both kinds. Woodlore Wolves can be called to us in all forest rooms so their habitat covers the entire know world forests.

NATURE DEFENCES WOLVES

Many of you maybe don’t know this but there are wolves in every forest room hiding in the shadows keeping watch over the forests. Many people that got forest-enemied to Oakstone and were foolish enough to enter the forests again are attacked by these wolves. Constantly coming out of the shadows in the woods attacking forest enemies and vanishing in the shadows again even before harm could happen to them.

NOTES: This brings me to the conclusion our Woodlore Wolves are also related to these Nature Defences Wolves. They sure share the same habitat. I never saw these wolves with my own eyes but maybe we might see them when we fight some nature enemies in the forests.

WOLVES FROM THE AALEN

On all my travels I only once saw a wolf cub. The one Azzy found hurt in the Aalen Forest and decided to care for. Looking at him I first thought he was related to the Northreach wolves looking at his blue eyes and white fur. Although his fur is partially grey also what could point out to the Black Forest wolves. But Azzy assured me Mingan is a wolf from the Aalen. Maybe the colour of the pups can still change before they become adult wolves. So far none has spotted other wolves in the Aalen so Mingan could also be a cub from one of the Woodlore or Nature Defences Wolves.

Probe Mingan:
Still covered in the standard puppy fat, this pup ambles about playfully, occasionally tripping over his large, uncoordinated paws. From the tip of his constantly wagging tail, to the very top of his nose, he is a beautiful ash grey; his maw, legs and chest are a snowy-white colour, despite obvious signs of rolls in the dirt. Sharp pearly puppy teeth glisten slightly as he pants, revealing a rose pink tongue lolled out to the side of his mouth, occasionally rolling up to moisten his cute coal-black nose. Standing on four strong, but short, stumpy legs, this wolf cub is a picture of innocence, even with his mischievous eyes. The colour of the ocean, his sapphire eyes betray his intelligence, but never his plans for his next rascally antic.
Mingan, a grey and white wolf cub is a humble-looking creature.
He weighs about 20 pounds.
He is loyal to General Aztecia C. Fuil'gra, the Aegean Rose

WOLVES’ RELATIVES:

My travels also made me encounter creatures very much related to wolves but not quite regular wolves.

DIRE WOLVES: I found these on my first travels to Rheodad when that area was first discovered. They are quite agro and will attack you on sight. Although they seem to be gone now and were connected to the curse that was holding Rheodad and Shala-Khulia in it’s grip. To bad I never noted down their description.

WEREWOLVES: Werewolves can be found in the Lupine Hunting Grounds. I will not make many comments on them just that you better stay away from them unless you are really powerful.

Glance in:
The den of the werewolves.
There are 2 fell werewolfs here. A fell werewolf cub plays here practicing his hunting skills. A fell werewolf cub plays here.
You see a single exit leading out.

Walking in from the in comes a fell werewolf, its cold blue eyes swiftly surveying its surroundings.
With a deep growl, a fell werewolf swipes you with his razor-sharp claws.
A fell werewolf roars mightily and sinks his teeth into you, gouging great wounds when he rips his teeth out of your flesh.
With a deep growl, a fell werewolf swipes you with his razor-sharp claws.
You have been slain by a fell werewolf.
Your starburst tattoo flares as the world is momentarily tinted red.

WOLFHOUNDS: Much more friendly as the above mentioned wolves relatives. When you’ll meet Magic you’ll immediately love him.

Probe Magic
Magic, an Achaean wolfhound, is covered in a gently waved, thick soft coat of iron blue and silver-frosted hairs. His shaggy-browed round black eyes, set back from a long bearded muzzle, seem ever watchful, clearly showing his protective nature, yet Magic also has a glint to his eyes and an upturned mouth that belies a very loving character. This dog would not only be safe around children, he would try to protect them to his death. Moving to follow sounds, folded ears accent the great head, and the big-footed long legs take fast strides as far as a man's. A long brush of a curled tail is normally softly wagging, stopping only when he is quite serious. He wears a shiny silver linked collar which bears a heart shaped tag with the words 'Loved by Kyra'.
Magic, an Achaean wolfhound is a humble-looking creature.
He weighs about 300 pounds.
He is loyal to Hawkstar Lady Kyra Windsong.

FIREWOLVES: The legends told me the Goddess of the Sun Mithraea had firewolves at her sides to protect Her and Her temple. I never saw any of those until the Rebirth of Tarah, Goddess of Harmony. Lady Tarah was welcomed by Lady Mithraea and one of the firewolves’ pups is been living in Tarah’s temple since then. And it is just my luck I’m a follower of Lady Tarah.

A russet firewolf pup prances in from the west, a wave of heat flowing before him.
Probe pup:
Possessing the universal appeal of all furry young animals, this young pup would tug at the heartstrings of even the coldest of individuals. His small ears perk forward at every new sound while his small, black nose is constantly in search of new smells. A coiled energy emanates from his small form as if he might burst into motion at any moment. His russet coat is reminescent of the faint brush of sunlight over a rich patch of earth, the reddish tint adding an earthy warmth to the compact figure it blankets. Though at first glance this appears to be a normal puppy, two things set him apart. The first is the faint flicker of flame in the depths of its golden eyes, faint yet clearly visible. The second is the faint red nimbus that surrounds the beast. It emanates a preternatural heat that promises to grow with the pup. He is called 'Nimbus.'
A russet firewolf pup seems strong and confident.
He weighs about 10 pounds.
He is loyal to Tarah, Goddess of Harmony

I feel honoured I was allowed to name this pup.

Other relatives to wolves are the dogs found in Hashan and then there are the apple green puppies in our guildhall. Don’t realy know the story behind them, maybe our history department could tell us some more about them?

Then there is one other kind of wolves I only heard about in stories. Wolves that seemed to have fires burning in their eyes. But if you want to hear more about this story you better ask Mordeanna to tell her from the times she was still a little child lost in the forest…
