Welcome to Sentinel high school.

High school physical education should be a fun learning experience. According to the Ministry of Education, the physical education program should provide for:

1. Affective development as it refers to adjusting both to self and others. It is concerned with developing an appreciation and enjoyment of an activity for its own sake and recognizing the individual self worth of each participant.

2. Cognitive development as it involves knowledge, perception, memory, imagination, creative ability, thinking, and reasoning related to performing physical activties.

3. Psychomotor development as it concerned with motor proficiency and physiological functioning in the performance of physical activities.

Here are some of the activities, we will explore this term and some of its components. This is subject to change without notice.

October 2 to October 27 (4 weeks) (Main Gym) -Basketball
October 30 to November 17 (3 weeks) (Outside) - Fitness/Weight Training
November 20 to December 15 (4 weeks) (Field House) - European Handball
December 18 to January 25 (4 weeks) (Main Gym) - Volleyball
January 29 to February 22 (4 weeks) Outside) - Sports Injuries/Athletic Taping
February 27 to March 30 (4 weeks) (Field House) - Floor Hockey
April 2 to May 4 (5 weeks) (Main Gym) - Softball
May 7 to June 8 (5 weeks) (Outside) - Lacrosse

Here is how you will be graded this year:

Skill / Attitude - 35%

The skill component is how you apply the techniques taught in class not how good you are. Your attitude refers to your sportsmanship and your manners in class.

Presentations - 25%

Each group or individual will present a sport or game. The presentation will last three classes. Each class is 77 minutes in length. In each class, the group or individual will present a component of the sport. There must be a lead-up game, warm-up (stretch and / or calisthenics), technique introduction, practice of technique (drills), and a closing activity. There can only be a maximum of four students in each group. The written component must be typed out and handed in the following class after the third presentation. The lesson plan must include:

  • topic
  • materials needed
  • lead up game
  • warm-up / calisthenics
  • introduction, rules, and history of the sport
  • techniques covered
  • main points for each technique
  • method of instruction (partner and group drills)(easy to hard)
  • description of closing activity.

    Attendance / Punctuality / Participation / Effort / Prepared - 20%
    Service Hours (5 hours per term) - 20%

    You must contribute 5 service hours per term in an area of leadership. This might mean supervising the weight room, helping out a sports team, helping out in the intramural program, or refereeing a league game.
