Chapter one~ Rosepearl
The River Moss flowed swiftly by as Rosepearl, a pretty female otter, sat on the bank, thinking of her friend, the only one she had ever had, the only creature whom she even knew. Oh, why did the vermin have to capture Alleria, her only friend in the world? How could they be so evil? They had lived together in a small underground chamber for many a season, ever since they had met each other when they were still quite young, after they discovered that they were both in the same position, having no home, and no family. They had made the small chamber that was their home all by themselves, and had a pretty good life since then, Alleria getting fruits and berries from high in the trees, and Rosepearl catching fish in the river to mantain a good food supply, and doing other various chores neccesary for survival. But then Alleria had been captured, and Rosepearl was left alone. "But not for long," she thought. "I won't be alone for long, because I am going to go and bring Alleria back, and destroy the vermin who captured her. This I promise, and I Rospearl Riverrunner always keep her promises!"
