Curltail vs. Loner the Wanderer
Winner: Loner the Wanderer
Prologue |
Strongpaw the badger steps forward with a parchment in his hand. Curltail, one of the Archer officers, toys with a long knife held in his paw. Strongpaw clears his throat. "This is a battle contest between Curltail and Loner. Curltail will use and oak staff and three knives. Loner will use a short halberd and double-sided, wooden javelin. You each have 10 moves, then we vote on a winner. Loner has the first move and may begin when ready." Curltail tucks his three knives into his belt and picks up his oak staff. |
Move #1 |
Loner walks into the battle arena with his short halberd strapped across his back and his javelin in his hands. He bends down to the arena floor, picks up a small amount of dirt in his hands and rubs it into his hands to prevent him losing his weapons grip in the heat of battle. He quickly glances at his opponent and thinks about the best way to attack. He decides the best way to attack and puts his plan into action. He quickly changes the position that he is holding his javelin, so one of the pointed sides is facing Curltail. He then charges at his opponent madly with his javelin held high. When he is ready to swing at him, he starts swinging his javelin like a club towards hiss chest, but he ducks and swings at his opponents feet. |
Move #1
|
Curltail holds his oak staff vertically, his dark brown eyes watching Loner cooly. As Loner comes at him, he steps back slowly, moving his staff in short swift motions to block Loner's attacks. |
Move #2 |
Loner swings his javelin at Curtail's feet, but instead of hitting his feet, he hits his staff, which breaks his javelin into two peices. With both peices still in his hands, Loner rolls past Curtail, stands up behind him nad then hurls half of the broken javelin at him with the force that could only be made stronger if it was thrown by a badger lord. He then holds his javelin in both hands, like a staff, over his head, ready to deflect Curtail's next move. |
Move #2
|
Curltail turns as Loner rolls by, but he's un-prepared for the half of the javelin that comes at him. It gashes him across the cheek. Curltail's eyes take on a dangerous look and he charges, whipping the right end of his staff towards Loner's head. |
Move #3 |
As quick as lightning, Loner rolls the broken end of his javelin towards Curtail's feet, hoping to stumble him. Loner then almost dodges out of Curtail's swing, but his left footpaw was hit. Loner limps off towards a tree and pulls out his short halberd. He turns so that his back is towards the tree and is ready to deflect any blow Curtail might try to inflict on him. |
Move #3
|
The broken half of the javelin rolled at Curltail's feet doesn't deter him at all. He charges at Loner, holding his staff near the middle. He swings the left end towards Loner's head, planning on bringing the right end to Loner's stomach as soon as the left comes in contact with something. He keeps in mind that Loner might attack before he can make the second move, so he's at least prepared for that move. |
Move #4 |
Loner holds his short halberd with one hand in the holes of the two axe heads and the his other hand on the handle of the weapon. He then pushes, with all of his strength, the midpoint of the weapon into the middle of Curtail's staff trying to make Curtail fall back. |
Move #4
|
Curltail blinks in slight surprise as his staff klacks against Loner's weapon. He shifts his weight to keep his balance, though it causes him to back up a few paces. Once he feels steady, he exerts all his strength and presses back against Loner's weapon. |
Move #5 |
Loner pushes hard against Curtail's staff so that he has to move his weight forward. Loner then jumps back and to the left quickly, so Curtail might stumble because his weight is forward. He holds his halberd inbetween the two axe heads with both hands over his head and waits for Curtail's next move. |
Move #5
|
Curltail grunts in surprise as Loner steps away and he pitches forward. Acting on instinct and seasons of training, he manages to turn his fall into a roll, though he does land rather hard on his left shoulder. Curltail rolls to his feet and staggers back a few paces, wincing at the throb in his shoulder. He holds his staff and takes a moment to eye Loner, as if searching for a weakness he can exploit. |
Move #6 |
Loner stares at Curtail, waiting for his next move, but he doesn't attack. Loner decides to attack and moves his short halberd perpendicular to his waist, like a lance and charges toward Curtail. |
Move #6
|
As Loner charges, Curltail flicks his tail and dashes away to the nearest tree. He holds the staff in his left paw as he climbs to a branch a little higher than Loner's head. He crouches there and waits. |
Move #7 |
Loner slides in the dirt of the arena as he changes the way that he is running. He holds his short halberd over his head and as he runs even closer to the the branch that Curtail is on. When he is a few feet away from the tree, he jumps forward, cutting the branch from the tree. He runs forward ten feet more and turns around with his halberd's spearpoint resting in the palm of his hand. |
Move #7
|
Curltail watches Loner approach. With a smirk, he jumps up and grabs the branch above him. He watches Loner as he runs past. |
Move #8 |
When Loner turned around, he hoped to see Curtail on the ground, but he was still in the tree on a different branch. |
Move #8
|
Curltail looks down at Loner with an impudent grin, obviously considering just staying up in the tree. However, after a moment, he drops to the lower branches and then to the ground. Once both his paws are firmly planted on the ground, he charges at Loner with his staff held like a spear. He's not quite running at full speed, but still going along at a good clip. |
Move #9 |
Loner watched Curtail getting out of the tree and starting to run at him. He switched his handgrip on his halberd, so that the handle was pointing at curtail and the speartip was pointed at him. He waited until Curtail had halfway closed in the gap between them, before starting to run towards Curtail, slightly slower than the speed the squirrel was running at. |
Move #9
|
Within a few paces of Loner, Curltain drops into a roll and attempts to somersault pass Loner. Given that he's tumbling head over tail, his staff is held out more-or-less parallel to the ground. He hopes to trip Loner with that move, but really has little time to think about it as he rolls by. |
Move #10 |
Loner, still holding his short halberd like a spear, quickly turned to the right to avoid Curtail's somersault-roll-tumble maneuver. After running for a few more seconds, he stops, turns toward Curtail and throws his halberd to the ground. He then holds out his paw as a gesture of friendship. |
Move #10
|
Curltail gets up and brushes some stray leaves from his head before turning to face Loner. With a grin, he firmly shakes Loner's paw and gives him a nod, silently congradulating him on a good match. Then the squirrel turn and within a few bounds, is disappearing into the trees. |
I think that Loner won because he was consistent in the battle. curltail jumped into the tree, and I do not think that was fair as he had an advantage over Loner. |
Though the match was more or less a draw,Loner's attacks seemed to appeal more to the senses, but Curltail's attacks were straight forward and more or less effective. Curltail also seemed to have more tactice in going into the tree, using his natural talents to his advantage. That is why I liked Curltail more and that's why I think he won. |
I think loner did much better in the ways of the warrior. |
