Howling At The Moon
On one bright evening when the stars where all out in the sky and the moon was rising high
I said out foot on the cold cold street and let my senses take the lead
The moon was hauntingly bright and lightening up the dark dark night
Suddenly I saw a little puppy and spied it without letting it see me
The poor wee thing was gray and seemed furry and soft not to my dismay
There was noone in sight and it seemed all alone in the cold dark night
Just when I was about to pick it up and take it along I suddenly heard the song
It was a wolf's howl, a melodic cry that seemed to stop the time that passed by
I couldn't move, stood frozen as ice, but when something moved I didn't think twice
I jumped around a corner of the street just when I heard the sound of silent feet
Then there it was standing in the bright moonlight on the grass
A magnificent wolf so majestic, with eyes gleaming brightly, just fantastic
It seemed to stare a moment straight towards me though hidden behind the wall I was certain it couldn't see
Then it slowly walked to the puppy and picked it up, staring at me, rather mockingly
I knew instantly what it was thinking about me
He knew I was interested but a bit afraid and I realized too late
That what I had seen, so grand and so fair, was something so special and so very rare
I had witnessed one of Nature's wonders by night and by becoming aware of that my heart filled with light
Then I looked up towards the hill and there upon I saw the wolf standing still
It again seemed to look in my direction and then slowly raised his head towards the moon shining in perfection
Then he let out once again a melodic cry, that sounded so unlike a howl, but more like a sweet soft lullaby
I then knew I'd never see it again, but that forevermore, although unseen, I would have a friend
