Greetings and thank you for stopping by our website for the School of Shorindo Kempo Karate.  This site is in the process of being developed and we have many exciting things planned in the near future, so make sure you bookmark this site and return often for more interesting information and gallery pictures.

 Welcome to the art of Shorindo Kempo (pronounced shor-in-do Kim-po).   The name Shorindo is translated as "Shaolin Way" and Kempo is translated as "Chinese boxing - the use of hands and feet".  It is a unique martial art resembling the circular movements of Kung-Fu, the lightning quick strikes of karate, the throwing methods of Judo, as well showing similarities of styles such as Jujitsu, Aikido, Thai Fighting, Jeet Kune Do, etc.  We specialize in the martial art of Kempo.  "Shorindo" is the style of Kempo we practice.  It is also called Karate for it is an art of "Empty Hand".

The style of Shorindo Kempo was brought to the United States by Master Robert Saunders approximately forty (40) years ago.  He was a native of the Bahama Islands where he learned the martial arts.  Beginning at age seven, he spent many years learning the secrets of the three Masters who taught him their way of life.  When Master Saunders passed away, he had reached the highest level attainable in this style, 10th Degree Black Belt.  Being his highest ranking student and Black Belt at the time of his death, Master Saunders passed the style of Shorindo Kempo down to Sensi Roger Rayburn, to carry on the teachings and continue the tradition.

Shorindo Kempo is an art that is taught in the tradition of the old masters who believed that the students should learn to incorporate the teachings into their daily lives as well as in the dojo.  It builds character and belief in one's self.  The student who is weak becomes strong.  The aggressive and over-zealous become calm.  Shorindo helps them to direct their energy in a positive manner.

Our school has four principles that we live by in the school as well as outside the school.

They are:

 Honor

 Respect

 Courage

 and Discipline

We feel that to have one you need the others.  What makes our school different than many others?  Our instructors truly care about each and every student.  No student is any less important than any other student.  We want each individual to succeed in whatever they do.  The training in the dojo is preparing you for obstacles you face in life.

There is an old saying that I believe and have seen;

One day the student will stand upon

the shoulders of the master

and the master will be

the proudest of all".
