| Neon Genesis Evangelion This anime is very interesting and unpredictable, but it has a lot of mature content, foul language, and loose takes on religion. It's another mecha (giant robot) anime, but it's definitely different from the others. It's about 14 year old children that pilot giant robots called Evas (or evangelions) to defeat enemies known as Angels. But there is a lot more behind it all, and only a very few at the top completely understand what's going on. |
| Fushigi Yuugi Definitely a shoujo anime, and probably not one guys will be particularly interested in. But of course, you never know. Complete with a whiny, Usagi-esque heroine, he jealous best friend, generally evil-but-understandable bad guys, and more bishounen than you can shake a stick at. Miaka, a 15 year-old girl and her best friend Yui go to the library one day and they find a magic book. The book pulls them into an alternate universe that is basically ancient China. I'll leave the rest for you to find out. ^_^ A tad bit predictable, but there's so much cool stuff along the way that you forget to guess what'll happen next! It's kinda long but really cool, and it's got some music that'll really get stuck in your head. It has occaisonal references to raping and random acts of violence, so the littl'uns might not want to watch a couple of scenes. |
| Shoujo Kakumei Utena Okay, this one's downright weird. If you pay attention, you get as much out of the silence as you do the dialogue. The setting is a mysterious university ruled by its student council. The heroine is Tenjou Utena, and the thing to make it interesting is some weird duels that the student council fight with each other for the posession of the Rose Bride. It's weird, and I refuse to tell you too much so that I don't spoil it for anyone that hasn't seen it. It's total eye candy! As you may have noticed, I tend to favor shoujo anime. But this one isn't really the usual magical girl stuff because it's just so darn peculiar! Anyone offended by incest or homosexuality may want to avoid it, though. |
| Cardcaptor Sakura Yup, another one. ^_^ A young girl accidently releases magical cards from a book called "The Clow" and has to find them again. Once she captures one, she can use it to capture others.She wears some rather weird stuff while she catches them, too! But she's not the only cardcaptor, of course. Nobody ever works completely alone...well, it's on Fox weekdays and it's really cute, so try it if ya want. And ::gasp:: this one has no illicit content! ^_^;;; |
