When she's not fighting youma, she's known as Tsukino Usagi (serena). Her name translates into "Rabbit of the Moon."
Usagi is ditzy, klutzy, lazy, gluttonous, boy crazy, manipulative and terrible in school. Everything you want to protect the Earth, right? ^_^
Sailor Moon isn't too much better.
But as the episodes pass, she improves a great deal. Thank goodness!
Usagi's favoritte colors are pink and white.Her favorite food is cake, her least favorites are carrots.Her blood type is O.Her favorite school subject is home economics, her least favorites are math and english.She was born on June 30th, which means that her birthstone is pearl and her ruling planet is the moon. Cancers are known for being sensitive and caring, which summarizes Usagi perfectly!She has trouble with ghosts, dentists, and pop quizzes. Her parents are Tsukino Ikuko and Tsukino Kenji. Her little brother is Tsukino Shingo.
Eventually, we find out that in her past life, Usagi was Princess Serenity: heiress to the throne of the Moon Kingdom, The Silver Millenium. We also find out a lot of sad history about the kingdom and Serenity's past life.
In the manga, Endymion (mamo-chan/darien), Serenity's lover, was killed by Queen Beryl protecting her. In despair at the loss of her true love, Serenity committed suicide.Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoisite, and Kunzite had been brainwashed by Beryl and Metallia; but at the death of their prince they snapped out of it. Queen Serenity, Princess Serenity's mother, sealed Metallia away, but because of the sorrow over the loss of her only daughter, the seal was defective. She used the Moon Crystal to send Serenity, Endymion, and the planetary guardians of the Solar System, into the future to be reincarnated. Sailor Saturn proceeded to silence the Silver Millenium.
In the anime, Metallia and Beryl killed everyone and Queen Serenity used the Crystal to send them all into the future, but she had to send Beryl and Metallia too, because otherwise Princess Serenity and everyone else would die.
Luna actually made a mistake. There wasn't supposed to be a Sailor Moon, just Princess Serenity and her Guardians. But even though Luna knew Usagi was important, she hadn't regained all of her memories, so she didn't know exactly why she was important.
Serenity and everyone were reborn into the 20th century, and eventually she reunited with Endymion and all her guardians. They guarded the Earth against evil, and in the 30th century she and Endymion get married and have Chibiusa (rini) and they all live happily ever after. ^_^
