| It's my personal theory that Yui is somehow Lilith in one way or another. How else would she be able to create an accident where she would be able to absorb herself into EVA unit 01? The angels and EVA units were a lot alike in some ways, and it is possible for an angel to merge with Lilith, even if they didn't want to. Humanity was spawned from Lilith and Cain, and after the 3rd impact, Yui's soul was still left in unit 01 with the Lance of Longinus at the moon. After the Lance was lost, EVA unit 01 was the only substitute for Lilith in starting the impact. Maybe Yui/Lilith would later recreate humanity? The physical body of EVA unit 01 was made using Lilith. At the time of Yui's "death," there was already a unit 00. Wouldn't Lilith rather return to a form that looked like herself than one that didn't? In addition (probably my best proof), Rei was a being made of whatever they could find of Yui after she was absorbed. And Rei's soul is somehow partially derived from Lilith.
