1997-1998
The 1997-98 Senators were the 1st team in club history to finish the season over .500, as they had a club record 83 points in 82 games.  The team made the playoffs as the 8th seeded team in the Eastern Conference, and pulled one of the biggest upsets in NHL history, by defeating the heavily favoured New Jersey Devils in 7 games.  But the team played poorly in the 2nd round of the playoffs, and lost to the Washington Capitals 4 games to 1. The team also set a club record in attendance,  as they averaged 16,730 fans per game, and they had 13 sellouts.  The Senators posted 3 consectutive sellouts, when they played the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Colorado Avalanche during a 3 game span.  Damian Rhodes set a club record for wins with 19, as he and Ron Tugnutt paired to be the NHL's toughest goaltender duo.  Alexei Yashin again led the Senators on offense, as he was the only player on the team to record over 50 points (72).  The Senators had a 51 game unbeaten streak when leading after 2 periods halted on February 28, as they blew a 3-2 lead over Vancouver, and lost the game 6-4.  Ottawa had its first taste of playoff success in 1997-98, and the team was continuing to improve.
