1995-1996
The 1995-96 was a season of change for the Ottawa Senators.  The Senators won 6 of their 1st 11 games, but after a terrible slump in November and December, the team fired Rick Bowness as head coach and hired Dave Allison, who was fired 9 games later, as the team finally settled on Jacques Martin as head coach.  Also, the Senators had a blockbuster 3-way trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Islanders on January 23rd, as they acquired Wade Redden and Damian Rhodes for Don Beaupre and Bryan Berard.  The Senators also moved to the new state-of-the-art Palladium (renamed the Corel Centre after the season.)  The team finished with club records in wins (18) and points (41).  Daniel Alfredsson won the Calder Trophy for top rookie in the league, as he finished with team highs in goals, assists, and points.  It was the first league award that a Senators player had won.  The Senators were a team on the rise, and many people felt that this team would have a chance to contend for a playoff spot for the 1996-97 season.  The team also recorded their 50th NHL victory on April 5th, 1996 against the New York Islanders.  It was an exciting season in Ottawa.
