Caryl Worden
the Book of Impotence & the Book of Secrets
"Creating is as essential as breathing for Canadian artist Caryl Worden. "I have roamed the career roads of music and writing, but always return to the visual arena...graphic design, photography, collage, sculpture, painting and, now, mixed media."
In developing the Book of Secrets Caryl opted for the "big picture" both in the size of the book and in the scope of the theme. "The book represents that which is hidden yet affects us all: life and death."
Caryl lives and works from her lakeside studio on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Dennis Fonfara
the Book of the Seducer
I have experienced and survived enough change to understand that technology's craftsmen will create the new realities. It is the artist's new job to make precise contexts for them, then abandon those contexts for the next. That is the process of growth.

Jen Worden
the Book of Silence
"After completing our first collaborative work, Peter Greenaway's 'Prospero's Books', with these amazing artists it was an easy decision to continue our exploration of his 'Pillow Book ~ 13 Books Written on Skin'. As with any such project, where you think you will go and where you actually end up are often two very different places! That my Book of Silence ended up focusing on "aural" and not "oral", as was my initial intent, was a complete surprise! It is this journey that continues to intrigue and enthrall me and, hopefully, helps me grow as an artist."
Jen Worden, a book artist from Nova Scotia, Canada, lives on a 150 acre, 130 year old hilltop farm with her husband their 3 children, 2 cats and 1 dog.

Kim Leland
the Book of Births & Beginnings
Forty-two years old, variously
employed over the years in a variety of fields, everything from
foal watcher for horses to waiting tables in dozens of restaurants
to the 3rd shirt zombie at Kinko's, selling jewelry on the internet,
and paper deliveries to mention the highlights. I've made jewelry
for a living, I sew (quite well if I may say so myself), and most
of the "real" art I've ever done has been fiber-oriented.
I'm largely self-taught in most any endeavor, though I do have
an associate's degree in Graphic Arts, which brought me the night
shift at Kinko's Copies (oh, joy). I love paper, in almost any
form - I love touching it, feeling it, playing with it. The colors
and textures are similar to the beauty of fabrics, which I never
buy if I can't feel first.

the world before she leaves it.
Lynn Dewart
Book of the Betrayed & the
Book of the Lover
A self-taught working fiber and
mixed-media artist who draws
inspiration from and whose work tells the stories of both the
inner and
outer worlds of the human experience and cross-cultural myth and
folklore.
After the thrill and delight of
participating in my first international group art project, Prospero's
Library, I was hooked on the experience and the participation
of the particular members. When i learned that another collaborative
project was organizing to depict another Peter Greenaway film
"The Pillow Book" (which happens to be my favorite of
his and one of my favorite films overall...i am fascinated with
flesh, touch, calligraphy and storytelling) , I jumped on the
spectacular opportunity to tell a tale of betrayal (and love)
in any media I wished and then, to receive back, not my own piece
of art but the surprise of another's! I am honored to participate
in this marvelous collection organized by Jane Fonfara.
Penny Linders
the Book of the Innocent
I think altering books is a wonderful
way to bring an otherwise forgotten or outdated book back to life.
I wanted to broaden my venues for creativity, and in the process
I've discovered it is also an environmentally friendly thing to
do.
