| DAY 1: LUNCH BUFFET @ PATTI'S IRON KETTLE / BLOOMINGTON, IL: The Goodtime Travel coach departs with an excited group on a wonderful trip to the Pacific Northwest and the Canadian Rockies. Today we travel through the beautiful states of Tennessee and Kentucky as we head for our first night's destination in Illinois. A wonderful buffet lunch is included at Patti's Iron Kettle. (L) DAY 2: LUNCH / BROWSING IN WISCONSIN DELLS / UPPER DELLS BOAT TOUR / WISCONSIN DELLS, WI: By lunch time we will be in Wisconsin Dells ready for another wonderful meal (included) at a local restaurant. There will be time for browsing in the many shops before checking into our hotel. On our boat tour this evening we'll step into the past and experience the "Dalles" (flat layered rock) that have become the Dells of the Wisconsin River. It's unspoiled river scenery with commentary, imaginative rock formations, high sandstone cliffs and gorges permeated with fern and flora seen only by boat and much as the first explorers would have found it. Our overnight is in Wisconsin Dells. (L) DAY 3: MALL OF AMERICA / MINNESOTA: Today we leave the natural beauty of Wisconsin Dells behind and turn our thought to the man-made Mall of America. You will have all afternoon and evening to explore this colossal mall. Boasting 520 stores, 20 restaurants in addition to the multitude of fast foods, 14 movie screens, an aquarium, LEGO Imagination Center, Bloomingdale's, Macy's...you name it, this place has it. And when you have had enough, there will be a shuttle to take you to our hotel only a short distance from the Mall. Oh, and there's no sales tax on clothing in Minnesota! DAY 4: MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA: Watch terrain changing, today as we travel through Minnesota-the land of 10,000 lakes, gouged out by retreating glaciers. We then cross into North Dakota and Minot for the night. DAY 5: ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE ACADEMY AND MUSEUM / REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN, CN: We enter Canada's "bread basket region" which stretches from Manitoba to Saskatchewan. You will see some of the flattest countryside around. Our destination is the provincial capital of Saskatchewan, Regina. After touring the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Academy and Museum, we will watch the Sergeant Majors' Parade (if available). Tonight, we enjoy another included dinner at a special restaurant. (D) DAY 6: MEDICINE HAT, ALBERTA, CN / LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA, CN: We travel through Moose Jaw, SK today, famous for its network of underground tunnels built by Chicago gangster, Al Capone. In Medicine Hat you will see the world's largest teepee. We stay two nights in Alberta. DAY 7: "GOING TO THE SUN" TOUR / GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, MONTANA / LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA, CN: We re-enter the U.S. at Montana on our way to Glacier National Park. After boarding the Park's transportation system, a tour affords us views of valleys and peaks carved by immense glaciers during the Ice Age. We will travel the "Going to the Sun" highway, one of the most pictureque drives in the world, where the snow and ice-capped peaks tower magnificently above. We'll cross the Continental Divide at an altitude of 6,664 feet. DAY 8: LUNCH @ CALGARY TOWER / TOUR CALGARY, AB, CN / BANFF, ALBERTA, CN: It's noon and we're in Calgary, the city with a "cowboy" image. Although the world-famous Calgary Stampede is still important, there is so much more to this is still important, there is so much more to this modern, vibrant, and cosmopolitan city. After an included lunch at the top of the revolving Calgary Tower, we will have a guided city tour. To our west lies Banff National Park in the heart of the towering Canadian Rockies with its tiny resort town made popular, by the area's hot springs. We will spend the next two nights in Banff. (L) DAY 9: COLUMBIA ICEFIELD / LAKE LOUISE / BANFF, ALBERTA, CN: Today, we see some of the most breath-taking scenery in the Rockies as we travel the road popularly known as the Ice Fields Parkway. We'll stop at Lake Louise with the dazzling Victoria Glacier towering above. Surrounede by mountain ranges, we travel northward and climb to almost 7,000 feet above sea level. The snow-capped peaks of these mountains reach up to 11,000 feet! Just imagine 150 square miles of ice, and the tongue of the Athabasca Glacier with ice 1,000 feet thick! DAY 10: CANADIAN ROCKIES / BRITISH COLUMBIA, CN: After a descent to the West Coast we will travel south on the Yellowhead Highway. Winding through the North Thompson River Valley to the city of Kamloops, we follow the Fraser River to Vancouver, BC. DAY 11: VANCOUVER, BC / QUEEN ELIZABETH PARK / STANLEY PARK / GASTOWN / FERRY TO VANCOUVER ISLAND / VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CN: Today, we tour Queen Elizabeth Park. The Park provides a great view of Vancouver, the harbor, and the North Shore Mountains. Downtown's Stanley Park consists of 1,000 acres of landscaped gardens, lakes, and totem poles. Our visit to Gastown allows us to browse the quaint shops, stroll along the cobblestone streets, and see the steam clock! A ferry takes us across the Straits of Georgia to Victoria on Vancouver Island for a two night stay. DAY 12: VICTORIA ISLAND / GUIDED CITY & INNER HARBOR TOUR / LUNCH @ EMPRESS HOTEL / BUTCHART GARDENS / VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CN: A local guide boards the motorcoach to give a tour of the city and Inner Harbor. See the famed Empress Hotel, Parliament Building, Royal B.C. Museum, Government Street, and more. Lunch is included at the Empress Hotel. You will have some free time this afternoon before we depart for world-famous Butchart Gardens. We will see the Gardens in the daylight, enjoy dinner (on your own) and light musical entertainment. Then we can see the Gardens by the romantic Night Illuminations. Thousands of lights in dozens of hues dramatically light the Gardens, transforming them into a summer wonderland! (L) DAY 13: SEATTLE, WA / PIKE PLACE MARKET / MT. SAINT HELENS VISITOR CENTER / PORTLAND, OR: After crossing the border into the United States, we stop at Pike Place Market, a farmers market that is the "Soul of Seattle". Continuously operating for nearly a century, the Market's traditions, products, and people create a unique shopping and dining experience. This afternoon we'll see the devastating results still evident after Mount St. Helens eruption. After a brief stop at the Visitor Center, we continue to the Portland area. DAY 14: COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE / BONNEVILLE DAM FISH LOCKS AND LADDERS / MULTNOMAH FALLS / BOISE, ID: Today we travel through one of the most scenic areas of our country-the Columbia River Gorge, with its awesome Multnomah Falls cascading some 620 feet! We'll stop at Bonneville Dam to see the fish locks and ladders, before making our way to Boise for the evening. DAY 15: SNAKE RIVER / GRAND TETONS / LEISURE TIME / JACKSON, WY: Traveling through Snake River Valley, we see thousands of acres of irrigated farmland where once existed only a wasteland of sagebrush and greasewood. The waters of Snake River lead us into Jackson Hole, a picturesque town surrounded by the magnificent Grand Teton mountain range. There will be ample leisure time for exploring Jackson Hole. You may want to take an optional scenic float trip down the Snake River. DAY 16: ROCK SPRINGS, WY / SCENIC ROCKY MOUNTAINS / TOUR TERRITORIAL PRISON / LARAMIE, WY: From Jackson to Rock Springs and through the Rocky Mountains, we keep our cameras ready to freeze the scenic images that unfold! An afternoon arrival in Laramie gives us time to explore this famous western town. (D) DAY 17: GARDEN OF THE GODS / FOCUS ON THE FAMILY HEADQUARTERS / COLORADO SPRINGS, CO: While in Colorado Springs we will tour Focus on the Family Headquarters and visit Garden of the Gods. The rock formations are unbelievable. This afternoon, you may choose to go up Pike's Peak, or rest at the hotel. DAY 18: HAYS CITY TOUR / HAYS, KS: As we travel through the west, the hills and valleys turn into flat open country with fertile soil, miles of tall golden wheat, and huge farms-evidence that we have entered our country's bread basket. Hays, Kansas brings to mind such colorful characters as Gen. George Custer, "Wild Bill" HIckoh, "Buffalo Bill" Cody, and Calamity Jane- a true Wild West Town! A tour of this town is included for today. DAY 19: LUNCH @ KIRBY HOUSE / EISENHOWER CENTER / TOUR OF ABILENE, KS / INDEPENDENCE, MO: After lunch (included) at a special place, our guide takes us on a tour of Abilene with tales of its colorful history! The many attractions include Old Town Abilene, Eisenhower Center, and Heritage Museum--just to name a few. After a tour of the Eisenhower Center, we depart for our overnight stay in Independence, Missouri. (L) DAY 20: INDEPENDENCE, MO / HARRY S. TRUMAN HOUSE / FAREWELL DINNER / ST. CHARLES, MO: Our tour of the Truman House, a Victorian style built in 1885, includes the furnishings of Harry S. Truman, our 33rd President. Tonight, we enjoy a Farewell Dinner and reflect on the past 20 days! (D) DAY 21: HOME: Rocky Mountains, Wisconsin Dells, Glacier National Park, Banff, Columbia Icefields, Buchart Gardens, Vancouver Island, natural wonders and monuments--we've seen all these and more! What an awesome tour! |
