| DAY 1; DINNER AT WNTZELL'S OYSTER HOUSE/ MOBILE, AL: Mobile will be host to the world renowned exhibition on Pompeii, the ancient Roman city destroyed and buried in 79 A.D. by the catastrophic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. In addition to this exhibition, we will visit the Gardens of Italy at the Annual Festival of Flowers during Mobile's prettiest month. This festival has been chosen as one of the top annual events by American Bus Association. After a day of travel, we will enjoy dinner at Wintzell's Oyster House. (Dinner included in cost.) DAY 2: BREAKFAST BUFFET / GARDENS OF ITALY AT FESTIVAL OF FLOWERS / ITALIAN BUFFET LUNCH / A DAY IN POMPEII EXHIBIT / IMAX FILM "GREECE: SECRETS OF THE PAST" / 3D VIRTUAL TOUR OF POMPEII: This year's Festival of Flowers will highlight Italian Gardens and compliment the Pompeii Exhibition. See gloriously landscaped garden displays, horticultural exhibits, a World Flower Exhibit, and other sights and scents too numerous to mention. Located on the campus of Providence Hospital, the festival covers over eight acres that are magically transformed each year. In A.D. 79, the Roman city of Pompeii was buried by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The very debris and ash that so suddenly and violently ended life in Pompeii also encased the city in a virtual time capsule. As a result, Pompeii is today one of the most complete and intact archeological sites in the world. An included Italian-style buffet lunch that compliments the theme of the Pompeii Exhibit will be the introduction to this blockbuster exhibit. Delve deeper into the story of the Pompeii with your personal audio guide. Stroll through sections of Pompeii- in 3D virtual reality at the Exploreum's Virtual Reality Theatre. Witness how the city may have looked before that fateful day. Compare the eruption of Vesuvius with ancient Greece's blast at Santorini and deadly Mt. St. Helen in the Exploreum's science gallery. The IMAX film "Greece: Secrets of the Past" will give you a dramatic look at the ancient civilization Santorini, also destroyed by the volcano. As our exciting day concludes, we will enjoy another relaxing evening at our hotel. (Breakfast & Lunch included) DAY 3: BREAKFAST BUFFET / HOME: What a fun and educational spring-fling this has been! We arrive home early evening. (Breakfast Included) |
